Help with how to measure/pattern for leather batsuit for upcoming comic con please
Please help. This is my first time going to comic con and my first attempt at a suit. I'm trying to mimic the Batsuit from the Batman Arkham games using pleather/vinyl material. I'm having trouble with how to measure for the pattern to make it a fitted suit. I don't want it to look like a store purchased bagged ill fitting suit. I want it to be snug! Can anyone help direct me to a place that will show me either a basic pattern to start with or how to measure?

You're probably struggling because a fitted catsuit isn't a simple pattern if you're not using a stretch fabric like spandex (more so if you don't want a front seam!)

Take a look at the websites of Simplicity, McCall or Butterick and check their dancewear section. You might find something you can build from.

Have to agree with Pandora, nothing easy about a catsuit if done properly.

If you're happy to cheat a bit, you can make it easier but you're going to lose out on quality if you do. This is the route we've gone down.

We've made a couple of 'suits but we don't have the skills to pull off a proper design so when we did ours we made a pair of trousers and a jacket and then sewed the two pieces together. For both costumes we had a belt or something to cover the join so kinda got away with it.... Just a thought.

If you have a friend you could get together and make a neck to toe duct tape dummy (google tutorials). Once it's been stuffed and measures the same as you, you can use newspaper to make your own pattern by taping paper down around the dummy. Then draw on your seams, cut down them and remember to add seam allowances when cutting from fabric.

It's an arduous process but it will work.

That and for future suits and cosplays having a physically accurate dummy is invaluable.
