I'm going from Colchester so I'd imagine it'd be similar. Train to Stratford then a rail replacement bus to Custom House (The DLR isn't running)

Unless you're going on the Friday. The engineering works are just Saturday and Sunday, so you cen use the DLR from Stratford to Custom House as normal)

Start at Southend Victoria station
Travel via regular train to Stratford London station
Travel via the Docklands Light Railway to Custom House for Excel (or on Sat/Sun travel via the DLR to Canning Town, then get the replacement bus service to Custom House For Excel)

EDITED for new information. Cheers Adam

Hey, I'm coming from Southend too I personally recommend going from Southend central (C2C line is cheaper than National Rail), getting the train to Fenchurch Street. There's a short walk to Tower Hill Underground station, where I recommend getting an Oyster card. The TFL site says get off the tube at Plaistow Station and that from there there'll be a replacement bus to Custom House. All in all it should take you about an hour and a half max.
