Giving out comments here on CI?
I know that the 'give a comment get a comment' thread is pretty active, which is awesome, it's definitely helping! But sometimes I see wonderful cosplays go without any comments at all, because they don't post in the thread. Am I the only one who looks in the new photos section? I try to check it every day that I'm online and give out comments to people, because I think everyone deserves feedback on their work! Of course, you don't have to comment everybody, but it's nice to give out some feedback to costumes that catch your eye.

Does anybody else do this? If you don't, why not start? It only has to be one or two comments on costumes with newly posted photos per day, and I'm sure it'd make someone happy!

I like to look in the updates section a lot cause if something catches my eye i'd like to let them know that I like it

I do from time to time skim the photos thread and the recently added costumes and add to things I like. I agree that there's a ton of amazing costumes seem to get next to no recognition.

I agree with people getting hardly any comments, but I feel that at the moment on the internet as a whole is quiet. I guess people look but then just..look.

I find it funny XD I think CI is full of people at all hours of the day but its dead at the same time xD People are always on here but they just.....are on they don't do much else

I am always looking at the new stuff and looking at the events list to see what cosplays are going to what. But there is lack of talking, forum posts and comments really.

Ci just needs something to boost this but......can't really force it either owo;;;

yeah I agree, comments on a whole is not coming across as very active for a while now. I also look at the newly added things fairly often and add a comment here and there to things that catch my eye.
But really the whole comments thing is not something anyone can change, this is just how it's playing out the now lol.

I look over the photos and the new costumes when I get online, though I admit I don't comment often. I should make more effort to say 'that looks cool', rather than just thinking it.

I like commenting on costumes that don't already have hundreds of comments. Acknowledging good work gives me a buzz, and I know how happy it makes me when I get a comment

The only downside is when you leave a comment on a fantastic costume, then notice the cosplayer hasn't been seen round here for over a year

Same for when you see a work in progress that seems to be going well, but the last update was 2009 or something.

I often find I want to comment with some con-crit, but that generally doesn't seem to be a thing on here, and without it my posts would just be "this is looking good".
There's just only so many times I feel like typing "This looks awesome!" or "I can't wait to see the end result!" so I more often than not end up not commenting at all as they seem like pretty empty comments.

As far as I saw on the 'give comment get comment thread' it was always the same people posting in there. I like giving comments but not to receive. I was on there for a while but I ended up commenting on the same cosplayers outfits that some people just didn't have that many that I had commented on every single one and had nothing left to leave or they were just pictures of someone's torso in a mirror.

I ended up finding it difficult to enjoy commenting on peoples cosplays and kind put myself down in thinking, 'hmm they are only commenting on my cosplay because I'm next in the list. They might not even like any of them at all'.

I do browse the photos page and the costumes page and leave a comment hear and there about how the outfit looks or a cosplay I cannot wait to see progress on
I prefer gaining and giving comments that way. I don't do it as often as I'd like as I don't spend too much time on the site because it lags but when I like an outfit I will comment proudly 8D

I love to leave feedback. Especially on a costume where the cosplayer has done something quite inventive to achieve the finished look. I always check new photos/updates to see what has been added. I also check my favourite series.

I have to admit I haven't been able to do as much commenting as I've done so in the past as my life is much busier than it used to be. I do still try and visit when I can. I will try and comment when I can.

I would love to see more 'real feedback' and help given out to people. It's a bit scary to give feedback or suggestions sometimes because you could offend someone but I would still like to see more of it.

I've noticed the "Give a comment, get a comment" topic but to be honest I wouldn't feel quite right posting in it for the same reason that has already been mentioned. I prefer if someone leaves a comment on my cosplays if they personally feel that they want to comment on them rather than me asking them to ^^"

I will log in just so that I can leave a comment if something especially grabs my attention. I usually find them through the recently added costumes and randomly shown cosplays on the main page, as well as the activity in my friends list. I do sometimes feel like I'm often writing similar comments, but I try to constructively mention the specific parts of the cosplay that I'm the most impressed by rather than simply saying that it looks great.

You could always start a constructive criticism thread.

It's not something I'd join in with (often I know how to improve my costume but don't do it for budget/skill/patience reasons), but by having a thread you can get people to explicitly request constructive criticism, and you won't accidentally offend someone by giving it where it's not wanted

I agree there, when I comment on a costume esp that section, I comment because I like that topic of the costume, or I find the costume really worth commenting on. Not just to get comments. I always try and make it constructive, never this looks awesome, or very cool

In my opinion constructive criticism can be a very useful thing but its something I find a little rude if its unsolicited. I think a critique thread might well be a very useful thing to those looking to get frank opinions. I get nervous asking for it myself because I always worry that someone is just going to stay my work is terrible!

I've been on and off the comment thread. I guess I do get some people's reservations about feeling like they're asking for praise but at the same time I find it nice to have the ego boost. It's also helped me spot costumes which I might not have noticed otherwise.

I can see where you're coming from but I don't think there's anything empty in giving compliments, as long as you mean it. I like to think that it makes people happy to know that I like their work and it only takes me a few seconds to type out a comment and tell them I like it so why not?

Pretty much agreed with this. Same as Pandora though, I'm pretty much always fully aware of what could be improved with my cosplay and it's usually just a skill/time/resources/money thing so I don't really feel the need to seek out concrit on it. If someone wants to make that thread, go ahead! Anything that gets more comments flowing around is good in my opinion. (I feel like my mission on this site is to get more people to give comments ahaha, I try to do my part but it'd be super cool if everyone did and we really got the feedback flowing around)

Indeed, it does only take a few seconds. When I say empty I just mean I'm not very creative with what I'm saying and it feels empty because they're not often personalized is all.
When I see something that I really like, I do comment on it - don't get me wrong!

As for the whole con-crit thing and being insulting - that's exactly why I don't chance it by doing it. Although, when I do have con-crit it would truly be only with the intention of helping to improve and most of the time it's silly things like "a bit of jewellery would really bring the outfit together". It's just best to not get into it, really!

that is the only reason why I come here everyday to check new costumes and improvements. It is easy to give coments to those people that explain and give information about the costume. Some of them only have a pic and it´s hard to find something to say even if they look good.

I try to find nice things to say but if I want to say something that might be offensive I use the private message. (I only did it once when he was complaining about how to work on a material that actually the charácter doesn´t use)

Torosonycat really think your great for trying to get everyone talking I have noticed the lack of comments thing since being here! Some great costumes have hardly any notice praise or feedback. I hope more people get talking!!!

Also anyone going set up the crit thread??

23 Sep 2013 - 18:37107509
I try to give out comments, but I find sometimes I struggle to stop repeating myself because there are so many good costumes.

On the other hand, I do check often the new photos and the costumes on the main page to see others cosplays. I look at others, but don't always have something different to add.

I too have noticed the lack of commenting I am very guilty of not commenting often I used make a conscious effort to comment on 3 costumes a day but I dunno I slowed down over time I tried that commetn on the user above thread hoping it would stimulate the forum aswell as comments but like everyone said it's always the same people in there so I stopped.

However this thread has inspired me to go through the first 50pages of photos and comment on about 10 of them ^^ something I haven't done in a long while!

I suppose social medias don't help as they throw stuff at us that we might like whereas here you have to search for it unless it so happens to be on the front page when you happen to be looking.

Aww thank you! Honestly, I remember when I first joined this site there were a LOT more comments going around. Now, I don't see it so much.

I hope someone sets up the crit thread!
