Need help with my first cosplay outfit.
Hey all
i am going to sort out an outfit for the next closest event near me (which looks like the Birmingham MCM comic con)
as iv never done it before i thought id ask for help and guidance along the way

so i thought id pick some one easy to do for my first time and lucky for me, one of my favourite characters looks simple i guess

Gray Fullbuster from Fairy Tail

What do you guys think?

i know its not gonna be the most amazing outfit, nor will it win any awards but it seems appropriate for my first time

where would be the best place to start of is there a typical order to do things in (like go from head to toe etc.)

Thanks
Richy

There is no "standard" way of working with cosplay. You can work on whatever bits you like, in any order you choose.

Although lots of people will recommend good research first. Find several pictures of the character from different angles. If you can manage it a 3-d rotatable image (or model figure) is a fantastic resource to make sure you know what there characters costume looks like from behind, underneath, overhead, etc.

As already said different ways will work for different people. What I prefer to do is to source the most difficult to obtain and most specific items first and once that's done then I can feel confident enough that my cosplay will reach completion and that it's then worth me buying all the other easier items and materials. So in this case I would focus on the wig and necklace first knowing that trousers and tattoo paper (if that's what you choose to use) should be easy to obtain in your local high-street stores and from England-based websites. Another good reason for ordering your wig first is that a lot of the good cosplay wig suppliers are from abroad so can take some time to get to you. It's usually best to order them a month in advance.

Don't worry about it being a simple design, there are so many great characters who just happen to have simple outfits. And I'm sure that other Fairy Tail fans would recognise it since they would know the character and he has that distinctive tattoo.

Agreed. With a good wig, the tattoo, and the necklace, even people not familiar with Fairy Tale will recognise you are cosplaying, and not just dressed funny

For best results, see if you can find a group or photoshoot to join at the event. Costumes always better with an appropriate group!
