Feeling Guilty Brought Me Here (Newbie)
So me and my friend went to ONECON this passing weekend, it was our first ever convention, we never knew that an event was happening so close to home, it expensive to travel further afield for us right, so we always missed Conventions, and then at the end of July I got annoyed with not being able to go to conventions and did some research only to find ONECON happening so close. So naturally we bought tickets.

When we got there on the Saturday, we were amazed by all the cosplays and both felt exceptionally guilty for having not Cosplayed at all. Seeing everybody there who cosplayed and put effort into the costumes, has convinced me and my friend to put in 110% next time to cosplay, and to attend many more events. So I guess, I'm a super noob to Cosplaying, and I hope to see many of you at some time or another at different conventions

Welcome to Cosplay Island. I have one question, why do you feel guilty?

My friend and I felt guilty because we didn't Cosplay haha, its not a serious guilty, just that kind of guilt where you wished you'd had put as much effort in as everybody else.

Hey, it was your first con, not to mention you randomly found out about it. I'm sure if you had known about it for sometime you would have cosplayed. You've come here so that shows your interested in the hobby. Now, I'm going to be nosy, who would you have liked to cosplay as?

I have a few people, I plan to do Generic "Ichigo Kurosaki: Vizard Mode" seeing as my little brother bought me a high quality Hollow Ichigo Mask for my birthday, he wants me to dress as Ichigo to see the full look, so I'm doing that.

But then I might Consider doing an "Alundra" Cosplay, he's a character from the PS1 game "Alundra" I always enjoyed the game and I like how the character looks

That was nice of your brother. Any plans for which con/event you'd like to do Ichigo at?

Not right, we've decided we're going to save up allot of money, make our cosplays by hand (if we can, what we can't make, we'll get help) then see where to venture to next. But ONECON really inspired us to Cosplay Seriously, and have fun with it.

Sounds great. I've not been to ONEcon but from the friends I have that went, it sounds like it was a great event. If you need any help with stuff, this place is THE place for help. We're a small community but we help each other out. I'd also like to point out that cosplay doesn't have to cost the earth to be awesome. The main thing is to have fun with it, long as you do that, your cosplays and experience will be great.

Yeah we understand they dont have to cost an arm and a leg to make haha.

How ever me and my friend we like to make things from scratch, so we'll be buying fabric/materials and making 90% of everything outselves. So it'll cost chunk of money, but we're fine with that

We look forward to getting into this scene and community

As we speak I am actually creating the design blueprints for our first cosplays props. (I'm a Graphics Designer, and he's a pretty damn good wood worker haha.)

That's cool, though be careful of the wood you use and size of the prop. A lot of events have a size limit on props and rules around wood. I'd recommend looking in to foam (foam core) board. It's cheap and easy to work with and a lot can be done with it. A lot of the mecha builders use it. Also, foam, lots and lots of foam.

Haha thanks for the advice

We dont intend on making props entirely out of wood, only certain parts and details, like hilts and guards of weapons (If melee) or other smaller props, that we feel would be best made/carved into wood.

Wow, you seem to have thought this through, unlike me. I kinda jumped head first into cosplay and didn't really think about it or the skills I have that I could've transferred. Then again, before cosplaying I didn't really have any skills to bring to the table, they've all developed due to my love of cosplay.

Well I've always loved design work, which is what Cosplay pretty much is.

And it might be Nerdy/geeky or whatever but I've Text Based Roleplayed since I was 11 haha, so getting into character is something I love doing.

Text based roleplay is a hard gaming style to get into. Traditional roleplaying I can do, give me paper, dice and friends to bounce off and I can roleplay with the best of them. No matter how many times I try with text based I always lose interest so, kudos to you there sir.
