Ms Marvel Bodysuit help!
Hi all.
So I'm going to set about making Ms Marvel from the Avengers, Earths Mightiest Heroes tv show. This will be the first costume I've made myself so I'm kind of unsure of how to start.

My idea so far is to get one red and one black bodysuit and cut them both up to sew together as this seemed like the easiest route.

I'm just not 100% sure on how to go about doing it.
As the material is stretchy, I'm worried it'll be out of shape after I'm done sewing it up. I'm also worried that because it's stretchy I'll end up making it the wrong size. Is normal thread ok for Lycra/Spandex?

Also, is it worth getting the suits a size bigger to allow for sewing space between the pieces?

The biggest problem is cutting out the right size sections from the black and red suits. I had the idea of putting the suits on in turn and then marking out the parts I want to cut to try and get the right size.

Basically any help at all is appreciated, I've really got no idea on where to start.

Thanks very much

Oh lord, I thought id would be easy to butcher two suits together, it wasnt xD i would say buy one red one, and sew blue material onto it.. or just make it all from scratch

I'd do as Safi bear recommends, buy a red base and sew inky blue fabric on it. Make sure it stretch.

With my Wonder-Red costume I'm working on, I had a similar situation. There's a multi-coloured full body suit that's mostly red with black down the middle body section.

I've gone the route of wearing a morph suit over a black diving suit and (with a second pair of hands) pinning the section that needs to be cut so the spandex stays, then laying the suits flat and still pinned together, sewing across the marked section and then cutting out the fabric not needed. It's a bit cumbersome, not to mention very hot when you wear it but it worked.

In the case of Ms. Marvel (great costume choice by the way!) I'd measure, cut and sew individual pieces on to a red base seeing as the material on the black sections is different and has more of a shine to it.

It would only be a case of doing the collar/shoulders as one piece and the lower area as another. The gloves can be done completely seperately to the body suit and worn over it.

If any of that rambling made sense, I hope it helps! Best of luck with this, I'll be watching your progress.

Thanks so much you guys, thats really helpful
I'll see how it goes then but I think it'll take me some time to figure out a sewing machine. ^^
