Help with my first build, foam or card stock ?
Hi all.

As you might have seen, I plan on making a Kryten outfit, the first problem I am having is working out what material to use, foam or card, I think for the head, card might be best as it is thin and lightweight, I believe I would be best making that then using resin and fibreglass to reinforce it.

For the chest piece, I was thinking of EVA foam, but, I have no idea what thickness of foam to get, I have got some foam, which is half an inch in thickness, but, I am sure I have seen somewhere that a quarter inch thick is better, I have seen these EVA Mats which I believe is the correct thickness.

Any help would be more than welcome.

I have decided to go for a card build for the head, reinforced with resin and fiberglass.

For the chest, arms and legs, I think EVA foam is the best option.

Here is what I hope to end up with...

Kryten

I have started on the head, scaling it is not as easy as I was hoping, but, I think I am working it out correctly.

You might want to think about getting some craft foam for the top of the head or any curved pieces. It's flecible and once primed and sprayed, spraypaint flexes pretty well without cracking. (nothing too extreme, of course. I've spraypainted some shoes and it bends and creases a lot when I walk but the paint has stayed put so far)

It would also give you a bit of flexibility when you're putting the head on

The head is almost done, just got to finish the ears and the nose section, then, resin time.
