OMG so many rinoa's are just that

But yeah tbh no one has the right to tell anyone unconstructive critisism like that *I know we all have diffrent views to what that is but there is a line* Height really shouldnt be an issue O_o I find its mostly ourselves that eat away at the cosplays we wear, im conciouse of weight and hair all the time

LOL I'd just sit on them!! Lets face it I'm taller than the 'average' guy (let alone girl), so I stand a good chance of winning!

If I worried about body-shape for cosplay then I'd be restricted to doing Herr Major from Hellsing, Quina from FFIX and Wedge from FFVII (Or Palmer *cries*)

I tend to choose to cosplay people who are broad-shouldered, manly-looking men rather than the bishie characters who are generally incredibly thin. But that is mostly for my own tastes. I mean, don't get me wrong, I'd love to cosplay Faust VIII from Shaman King, but he's an anorexic guy with his entire torso showing. Not comfortable with any of that myself so I won't cosplay him!

Aww Sean you would make an epic Herr Major. Millennium doesn't get enough love.
Likewise I'd be restricted to the likes of Captain Hans if I went by proportions all the time. (Although I'd like to do him someday anyway, go figure...)

It matters not though if you stay within your height range. Cosplays get complimented on the merit of how well the costume is done, not necessarily the proportions of the person in it.

If we awere all truly restriced by height and body shape the only character I can think of that I'm left with is Selphie...

oh wait, I'm 1.5 inches too short to cosplay her.

LOL I AM doing Herr Major in May, but that's beside the point and you should totally do Captain for the future!

I so wish I was able to go to London. (Cursed exams and distance!) I could have bought an M40 coat, jackboots and the cap and went as Hans in May. Already have the belt and wig.

omg but gais! if ur not the rite height then ur liek so sucky lol!!111bbqqqpewpew! -______-

I don't think height has anything to do with who you want to cosplay to be honest. Its just another way for the so called elitists to make the so called 'Lesser Beings' feel bad about themselves. At 5'7 I'm probably too tall to cosplay Zexion, but that doesn't stop me cosplaying him. Because I like the character. I'd rather see someone put a tonne of work into their cosplay and not be the right height than someone get a clap on the back just because they are the 'correct height' and have a naff costume. :/

So what if a person is the wrong height? God forbid you actually dare to cosplay someone you like. Its all about cosplaying people you're the same height as these days. Forget about cosplaying characters you like. ¬__¬ Best bet is to ignore people who are uppity about your height or body shape and appreciate the people who do take pictures of you and appreciate your work. :3

I also have to admit that seeing someone in huge hulking platforms can sometimes ruin a brilliant cosplay. I've noticed alot of Organization cosplayers do it and it can really ruin a potentially good costume seeing these six inch spice girl esque platforms. XD

I don't tend to restrict myself to body-shape/height for characters, I just pick my favourite characters. I'm probably not the same height as Freya Crescent - I'm not entirely sure what height she's actually supposed to be, but with her character design, race etc, I'm guessing she's probably taller than I am.

Kim Possible - I definitely don't have her body shape! I'm told that I look a lot like her though, and that makes me happy enough to keep cosplaying her. Also, me and my Ron Stoppable are the same height, but I think Ron is just that little bit taller than Kim! Doesn't stop us though!

In short though, as long as you're happy, then you shouldn't really care what others think.

Im for that to freya ^.^ though some cosplayers arent very forgiving ^.^ and despite yourself you end up feeling bad. We tend to beat ourselves up every so often and it stops us doing the cosplays we want to, ive only just got the courage to do vash the stampede and Alucard O_o and me with my 32/34 waist, I ended up just saying "no one is as thin as vash aghhh" I know this isnt about height *im actually height apropriate for both* but its sort of the same thing O_o it dosent get better with age either, there is a veriety of ages on here and im sure we all feel equally as bad when costumes/bodies are put down.

Just to add my view, I don't think I'm height or size appropriate for anyone I've cosplayed!
I'm just above average height for a woman, which means im too tall for girls, and too short to crossplay a guy
It doesnt really affect who I cosplay because I always pick characters I like. People dont usually say anything but when they do its the little digs that get to you, but you've just gotta take it in your stride and realise some people are more anal about this stuff. In a perfect world we'd always be size and shape appropriate but unfortunately that isn't the way!
I've learned that you should be happy as you are and if you really need to, then just be adaptable. And also don't be of the belief that short people always look Chibi and all the tall ones should look Bishie-like, cos sometimes it can (and does) work well the other way around ^^,

I'm definatly all for cosplaying as characters that I like. Have done so for years as my way of showing my fandom for certain characters/shows.

I just find odd that there are some people out there who can be picky about people's height/shape/what have you.

I, personally, prefer to see a cosplayer whos put in effort to get the copslay good and have fun with rather than choose a cosplay that matches the height and end up not being as good.

I'm just going to have fun with my cosplays. Afterall, the way I cosplay means I'm recycling stuff round my house so I'm having fun and being evorimentally friendly at the same time. Woot!

I also believe height doesn't matter in cosplay! Sometimes it can be good to choose a character that is similar to your height and body shape, but damn if I want to cosplay Sephiroth, Melfice, or any other tall character I'm gonna!

I hate how 'heightist' the modeling world is though... I can't be a model as I'm 5'4", one inch below the minimum requirement! Ugh - I wasn't even able to join an agency because of this!

06 Mar 2009 - 17:3111417
Me and my friend have problems with height issues...
I'm 5 foot 9 and she's 5 foot 10, and we usually cosplay as a duo (Cloud Strife and Vincent Valentine, Haruhi Suzumiya and Mikuru Asahina etc).
The thing is, we have to be careful about the characters we chose to be, as I usually want to cosplay as the taller out of the two and my friend the shorter if that makes sense...
We have trouble finding characters we like that are height accurate also.

However, I would say accuracy is more important than height.
If the costume is great, height means nothing.

And Sephyraine, I think your Sephiroth is amazing!
So what if your not 6 foot whatever the hell height he is.
I'm far too tall for Cloud, but I'm still going for it.
=D

I hate height too. D: I did a Kyo Sohma cosplay last October and he's about 6 ft, while I'm just 5'5! xD

07 Mar 2009 - 11:5911441
The only time I worry about it is when I'm in a group cosplay. Unfortunately this means I get all of the girly characters (except for Ed, who's awesome). The Kuroshitsuji group we're doing at May's expo isn't height co-ordinated though, we just all nabbed the characters we liked. I'm going to be the shortest Undertaker ever, especially considering my heels are shorter than everyone else's. (Everyone in Kuroshitsuji wears heels. It's insane.) It's nice to have group pictures where the heights are right (and in the case of the Ed pictures, causes quite some amusement), but it certainly doesn't stop me from doing costumes I want to do.

I did have a mini-spazz attack when I found out that I'm actually too /short/ for Ed, but that was more because that means I'm uber-short. =____=

Awww, Thank you. You should do your cosplay of Cloud then we could try and get pics together where we are opposite heights to the characters.

Height wise i'm having fun at being too small for Abel. I think if I was the correct height I wouldn't fit under the door if I did his Crusnik hair (long hair sticking straight up)

i don't want to sound mean but sometimes i find the height issue amusing, it depends on the characters tho. For example, I love to cosplay Itachi (who is about 5'7 or 5'9 and i'm only 5'4), and it's quite funny if i'm stood next to an Ed cosplayer who is taller than me 8D
Other than that the height issues don't really bother me much ^^

26 Mar 2009 - 16:0312147
I use my 6'2" height to my advantage for my cosplays, ( Charles being a perfect example... He's actually 188cm tall and so am I! XD )

(If only I had a bishie face I'd do more "friendly" cosplays... But I have SCARY EYES O_O)

I'm planning to cosplay a charater who's just above 2 foot tall soon...
(Although, I'll admit no person could actually do that >>; )

Before I read this thread, I had never even noticed the height differences, an now that I can... It still doesn't matter XD

My Invalid Statement...
Heh, I know I'm completely new to this. But I like to keep my characters in my height range. I'm onleh Small! haha. I'm 5ft 7" and normally the characters I look to Cosplay are about my height! And normally don't take much to do with my hair, the thing I do find hard though is Facial hair growth, Unless I'm playing Sven from Black Cat, it never really should be there and me applying make up is the most fickle and amusing thing to watch ever. I also find that people putting foundations on me just looks retarded and my beard growth no matter how shortly cut/ shaven off still is quiet prominent! Damn me and my masculinity! But to save myself from my tangent! Yeah, to be honest, I don't mind anyone cosplaying anyone they want as long as you enjoy it and you've enjoyed the process of getting to that point, why should anything matter other than having fun when Cosplaying. :3 (as long as you don't hurt anyone..... :3)

I'm not bothered at all the height of characters and it shouldn't restrict what you're cosplay options are.

That's being said i like to play about with this concept

Say this year i'm cosplaying Dr Tenma, Mr Suitengu and Captain Hans. Tenma's short, Suitengu is maybe a bit taller than me and Hans is like a giant or something XD

Shorter is easy you can do that by hunching in photos and what-not

But this time i'm trying out filling the inside of Hans boots so that i'm taller by a couple of inches without changing the cosplay at all Just to weird people out that my height keeps changing XD

You already know my thoughts on this, sweetie! ^^ Height can be useful/bonus consideration if accurate, but certainly should not be the be-all/end-all. There are subtle things that can be done to help a little (heel lifts etc.) but no need to reach for the silly platforms if they're innaccurate. Definitely accuracy and quality are the priority, in my opinion - height can easily be worked around.

im about 5ft tall where as im cosplaying faust, who is a giant at 9ft tall, i really have no issue with height cosplay, i long to see a giant ed elric though >.> but i think thats a personal thing in a whole oher way to me the cosplay is in getting into character, enjoying yourself and a fun costume, the acuracy to me is important but on the back burner, and as for height, well that isnt even on the radar ^_^

Just been working on one of my new cosplays and i thought of this thread. Don't know how many of you have ever read the manga fairy cube, but i'm doing Ainsel from it. So um yeah, she's about 8 inches tall and I'm 6 foot ^_~ But let me tell you, when i picked the cosplay the height being an issue wasn't even one of my tohughts lol (my main one is whether i can actually make the outfit lol)

The height issue is a thing that's always upset me too, Seph-being 5'2", I'm apparently not as short as some but I'm definately at the shorter end of the scale, so I just stick with loli types or younger characters in general because I'm actually scared of the stick I'd get for cosplaying anyone taller!

I'm trying to get over this by cosplaying Gunzi who irl would stand a good foot and a bit taller than me but I really like him so sod height!
