Read Ilpala's excellent guide to glue for cosplayers: http://www.cosplayisland.co.uk/tutorials/glue

I'd go with contact adhesive myself (in a well ventilated area). Hot glue is not great as a long-term solution.

Actually I prefer superglue/cyanoacrylate , it bonds EVA foam quickly and strongly, and makes less mess than either hot or contact glue

Hot glue isn't a great choice as an adhesive for foam (or anything, really) in my experience. Superglue is good, but the bond is generally instant so you have to be very precise. Contact adhesive has a bit more wiggle room in terms of tweaking the join before it bonds permanently, so I'd recommend that as the best.

I agree with PandoraCaitiff

Timebond adhesive is GREAT for EVA foam and forms like cement! I would certainly use it on EVA foam that's going to take a lot of pounding

I used it to glue some slippers in my Baird boots and when i went to take them out i couldn't separate the slippers from the boots! xD
