This just sucks
http://ow.ly/lMZYF

A Kickstarter for a costume... And a 'sexy' costume at that. Of course now she has the money and more.

I really hope this doesn't spread. We have someone essentially begging for costume money in exchange fore 'rewards'. Then there's the kind of costume being made on top of that. Cosplay should really be a personal thing but this just seems to be horrible attention seeking.

This is really giving a bad name and image to cosplay. However I suppose it is mpre in line with that 'sexy' costume deviantart page. Be that as it may, its very disapppinting and disheartening to see.

Wow... better be a damn good costume for $4000. And $500 for a fifteen minute skype chat. I hope for the sake of whoever paid that it doesn't turn out to be one of those conversations where the other person mostly goes, "Uh-huh... yeah" most of the time because they're reading wikipedia or something at the same time.

07 Jun 2013 - 08:36103768
I saw this and was just like 'WTF!?'

basically she's getting people to buy her some camera equipment, outdoor lighting etc

It is an ABSOLUTE joke and i think the people that are actually giving her money are even bigger fools! >.<

07 Jun 2013 - 08:55103770
Just found her website. She is a total attention seeker sticking her cleavage in people's faces all the time.

The guy that showed me this said that she was a porn star before??

im not 100% sure as i've not looked into it - anyone know if its true??

07 Jun 2013 - 09:29103775
I don't know who's worse really, the person who started the campaign or the people who willing to give her money. It's really rather seedy and lets face it I think we can all tell what it sounds very much like.

here is some numbers for you people might like the 1963 film cleopatra was heralded for having the most expencive dress in movie history being a 24 carot gold dress the costume budget for that movie was $194,800 for 65 costume that averages out to $2,997 per costume so let me ask a question who in their right mind needs the amout of money she got for a costume unless it is made of gold it was not worth it...and i think kick starter needs some moderating in place..or people need to start being wiser with their money and not back stupid things.

07 Jun 2013 - 15:12103786
i say go her if she wants to make money that way then thats up to her. its people who pay are stupid but

i dont think i would class her as a cosplayer shes just a girl sort of wearing clothes similar to characters.she is rather more fan service than a cosplayer one thing i have to say is Tifa would wear a bra lol it must have been a bit nippy when she did that photo shoot oops

It's the unpopular line here but I agree with J-Po. She put up a crowd sourcing page and people paid money for it, well done her. I don't think it reflects on the community at all, good or bad.

People are paying her for pictures. I've not read through the page but if what Numta says about knowing that she's buying camera equipment with the money etc then she's being honest and not scamming anyone. She's providing a service and people are paying for it. I think they're pretty stupid for donating but they earned their money, it's theirs to do with what they want. She's being honest about what she's buying with the money. It's an agreement between two parties. If you don't like it don't contribute.

There's so much worse things in the world to get upset about, a crowd sourcing for a crappy costume should not be one of them.

Hahaha, I find it all very funny.

If these people are stupid enough to donate huge sums of money just to see a girl in a skimpy costume, that's their choice.

Albeit a ridiculous one.

huh o.O
I thought that was against Kickstarter's policy.

07 Jun 2013 - 18:08103795
She has free will, she can do what she wants... But if someone with little knowledge of cosplay sees this, what are they going to think? Things are bad enough trying to defend the slightly more "skimpier" cosplays we see at cons and the like.

yeah I saw this a while back. I agree it is more the case of the people backing her being stupid that's the main annoyance, but the fact that she could have done this for a lot less and there's cosplayers who sell prints and get ok money I'm assuming, why not do that instead of this nonsense. She is only now buying a sewing machine with the money as well. I'd have thought with her porn career she would have had a certain amount of money put aside already. At the end of the day if she didn't want to be under such a negative spotlight she shouldn't have done this. So either this is a any press is good press thing, or she was very naïve and stupid.

It's not Kickstarter as such, it's Indiegogo, a different site

What is there to defend though? Generally if they have no knowledge of cosplay they'll just think "oh it's a girl wearing skimpy clothes in the style of a computer game character".
I don't think anyone will really care and if she hadn't done this Crowd funding campaign and people got soooooo annoyed about it probably very few people would've actually have seen the picture in the first place and it would've just disappeared into obscurity.

I agree that everyone has free will to do what they want and that she didn't deceive anyone. But there's something that doesn't sit right with me about this. It feels very degrading- she is basically selling her sexuality under the guise of cosplay. If you ask whether they should ban people doing this, then I really couldn't say what is right, but that doesn't mean I have to be comfortable with the idea.

What makes her so different from Jessica Nigri or Svetlana Quint (who both cosplay and are booth girls for the money). Cosplayer booth girls sell their sexuality for money, to attract people over to the game and technology booths. Is it because no big company is sponsoring her to condone it that this is a problem?

Also, defamation of character much? To further invalidate her you call her an attention seeker, you suggest a background in porn. So much for the open mindedness seen in other threads on the forum.

Her "Sexy Peach" cosplay will be no worse than many of the 'legitimate' costumes which have been defended on these forums.

I'm not sure that everyone here finds booth girls much better. I have no problem with people wearing whatever they want but when it comes to actually asking for money for it, it does feel rather seedy. As far as whether or not she has a background in porn, that seems to be rather hearsay and rumour, but I'm not sure its really relevant to the discussion.

ok putting aside what I think of her from what I've come across and what may or may not be true about her since at the end of the day I can't actually know her and what she may be like. At the end of the day I just don't like the fact she's basically got people to give her money for nothing.

07 Jun 2013 - 23:38103809
Take a look at the corporate package. She'll do an advertising photoshoot for your company. But not if its a company selling adult material or porn.

I don't know why this amuses me so much

EDIT: And for the record I disapprove of booth babes. I think they demean men as well as women.

Such as? Putting aside the conversation about idealised character designs, etc, there is difference between a skimpy/fanservice costume and all this.

What's going here is woefully transparent, and a complete detriment to cosplay.

I'm not sure this subject should be so divisive. If anything it's kind of amusing, isn't it? I mean the girls made $500 for talking to someone for 15 minutes. I'm kinda curious what a $500 dollar conversation sounds like.

At £33 per minute that's way worse value for money than "Bored and H***y Housewives Waiting For Your Call (£1.50pm + network charges)"

Wow. When you crunch the numbers like that... And what happens if it turns out they are having a really interesting conversation (on the off chance) what happens when times up. Would she just cut off, or say "You're prepaid limit is about to expire."

Guys, I'm one step away from locking this thread.

It is completely fine to discuss this idea of whether using a kickstarter campaign for cosplay is something you'd do, agree with, etc, that is an adult conversation. And I understand due to the nature of the campaign, it's got more people talking than normal and people are likely to disagree with it.

However bringing in personal opinions, allegations and derogatory comments about someone adds nothing to your argument, and makes you look worse. Please take comments like that somewhere else and get back to discussing, else I'll lock this and send out warnings.

This forum is for discussion, not flinging insults, please keep it as such.
