Um... hi?
So yeah, feel a complete fraud being here, seeing as I've never actually cosplayed. Plus, suck at making things so that's not likely to change.

Anyway, 25, own too many (not enough ) gas masks, about to move to distant Aberdeen. Kind of hoping to get into cosplay, but don't have a clue how on earth to start.

Welcome to Cosplay Island. Don't feel like a fraud, you'll just have to rectify it and make a cosplay

There's not a specific "way" to start cosplaying, find a costume you like and try and make it, then ask for help. People here are definitely willing to help but please please please provide a reference picture when asking for help as the people most likely to be able to help you might not actually know what it is you're trying to achieve.

So yeah, think of a costume you'd like to do and let us know what it is

Thanks guys!

I'm probably going to do my usual thing of starting with something too hard - I'm already starting on the pattern for that. In the mean time, I figure Shizuo will be good for Manchester, especially if I can make a realistic uprooted signpost to go with it.

If the dressing-up is more interesting to you than the making things, you can always buy a costume.

Ebay is a good place to look, as is the Marketplace here on Cosplay Island. And if there's something you want that isn't for sale, you can always commision someone to make it for you.

Heh, I love making things. The only problem is that my skill is in making really really small things. 3" tall robot statue? Fine. Helmet big enough for my head? Not so much, especially when it's got rounded edges on it.

I'd be trying to get started now for next May, but moving house and job is wehhh.

(yeah, I know, excuses excuses...)

Hah. Yeah, I know where you're coming from. I used to be a wargamer. Converting miniture tanks and soldiers isn't quiet like dress-making, but there's some skills that transfer when making props.

Good luck with your projects

Hello!
Welcome! It's great to see you are motivated to cosplay. When I first started I also didn't know where to begin, seeing as you own a few gas masks, I'm sure you can Cosplay quite a few different sci-fi/history/army Characters.
