Your current camoflage choice might work against you here!

As your character is more sci-fi focussed can you replace the brown/green with a more unusual pattern or colour scheme? Something more appropriate to an alien world maybe?

Still too subtle XD

You want colours not of this earth if you want people to notice you. Try something like these:

The navy BDU looks pretty good to me, in a slightly more sci-fi way. Only thing is, for a lord general it still seems to me a little too much like a grunt's unifrom. Naturally if the character would be making proper use of his camo then flashy bits are out, but I can't help but feel something which signifies his status would be good.

how about a officers cap?
the character is meant to be modest but standout at the same time hence the DPM and olive green flak jacket, will a large railgun and swords help make the character stand out?
light up goggles, helmet and facemask?

If the accessories were dones, as you say, modestly, I think any of them would work. Headgear other than the standard issue helmet would be my choice.

Facemask, well, it depends. If it's inkeeping with the character, sure, but the character's name suggests visible face to me for some reason. Oh, and I wouldn't suggest a gas mask. Wearing one all day at a con is pure pain.

Will you be using the gun (slate grey G36) in the photo? Because that stands out very nicely to my mind.

that G36 is now olive green because i use it for airsoft.
what about a bare head I have short lightish blond hair! dragon insignia on my uniform?

The other military cosplays you will see around the expo halls are Colonial Marines (from Aliens), Imperial Guardsmen (from Warhammer 40,000) and an assortment of Call of Duty/Modern Warfare/generic FPS/etc soldiers.

Consider what will set you apart from them. Or just go with your gut feeling and what seems like fun to wear.

EDIT: Also seriously read up on the weapons and prop rules for the event before you even consider taking a your gun!

My nan is making the cloak for me and all i have to do now is make the swords then the costume will be ready for detailing (such as accessories and a suitable brooch for the cloak)

You might find it more useful to post this sort of update on the costume's page on the Journal tab.

That way you can find it much easier, and be able to keep track of your updates.
