Does anyone here know where I can get a hold of these goggles? http://brassgoggles.co.uk/blog/200611/german-goggles
The site linked on that page are sold out and after ages I have not been able to find anything like them and it's a shame as they would look perfect on my Pickelhaube. Which for some reason always has some sort of green dusty substance covering it every time I take it out of the box, I think it may be bad quality glue disintegrating but I'm scared it may be mold, god knows why as it's brand new. Never buy a helmet from India, ever! So I'll have to clean it out and re-attach everything.

Managed to get a WWII German parade uniform which is really similar to pre-WWI except that it's field grey with green labelled collar and cuffs as opposed the red straight up collar and cuffs on Prussian blue. But I prefer the grey as it has that more "punk" appearance cause of the red piping around the edges.

Your outfit sounds more Dieselpunk to me Jeff, but those particular goggles can be found all over ebay and on pretty much any Cybergoth website out there ^_^

Heh thanks for that, I tried ebay for hours but all the goggles that style had funky lenses. I'l have a look at cybergoth shops though.
Yeah the uniform is treading on a grey area as that particular style is late WWI. So it's debatable. I hope to have it in the Steampunk side with the props such as helmet and hopefully a brass looking Gatling gun at some point in future when I can get money. XD

About 75% complete on the Steampunk Firefighter backpack, needs fine detailing and weathering.

Got a new character in the works for Ayacon.

He's a mechanic and a doctor. He's not evil, just lacks all human morals. And firmly believes that machinary is the way of the future.

Oh he is going to be so much fun to play as. I will be doing a workshop on cosplay repairs that weekend, and it's likely I'll be wearing him for it. So instead of Tab you shall get Doctor Mechanic as your gracious host. I shall bring Cogsworth as well because he likes to stand in front of people and look important.

Tab

I'm not into this fashion/lifestyle so forgive me if this is no interest to you, but I have found mens victorian wing collar shirts (evening/dress wear) in Van Heusen outlets for £5 reduced from £40 in a variety of styles!

(I've been looking for one for my Dr Jekyll costume you see!)

I hope it's of some help to you.

As with Leadmill I'll be wearing something similar for the panel that we're doing. Not sure if I'll be wearing it all day or not yet!

Ooops
Hi there, I came across this thread, got all excited, and then ended up posting in the wrong place, poo. Never mind, realy getting in the mood for Steam punk S*** anyway. I grew up on old SF and fantasy fiction so this realy does strike a chord.
Some thing I noticed though, am I just out of the loop, or is there a lack of socials other than the cons. One of the things that we used to do in the reenactment groups was out of season partys and banquets.
In the N.A. we had a sub group that dined out as Imperial Russian Officers, purely as a social thing. Perhaps a Victorian/Steampunk wineing and dining event event would be fun, anyone.

I should have posted this before, but I didn't think about it.

There was a steampunk "live mannequins" day at the History of Science museum in Oxford last weekend. There were some pretty awesome costumes. Did anyone else go?

I'm not huge on Steampunk (I like the style, but never exactly immersed myself in it), but some of my friends and I went for a bit of fun.

The exhibition they've got on is still on until the end of the month, I think. It's pretty good, and free! XD

ETA: Website.

Empire that never was
Thankyou Purplefluffy for posting the link to the exhibition. Marvelous fun, and an inspiration for a whole shedload of gear. All I need now is somewhere to pose in the stuff, soon, though Joshua the pirate can always appear at Thoughtbubble again, in a new avatar facing the challenges of the bold new (19th) century.
Michael Moorcock wrote an sf called Warlord of the Air, set in a British Empire that continued due to its Airship technology. I was reminded very much of that by the brill costumes they were wearing. D**n good show, I should say so, what.Full steam ahead and damn the torpedoes.

I have been pondering steampunk for a while, but I just cant seem to decide on what it is I want to do.

I had an idea for a alchemist who had failed so many experiments that she'd managed to destroy her respiratory system. So her Dr saved her by putting in some sort of ludicrous system which we have no clue how on earth it works, but it does....so there. Anyway. She also had built into it a system to deliver her deadly poisions, and she also is able to refine them and test them using her new.....lungs? Sometimes it messes her up though.

Iv'e not developed her further than that tbh. Alot of people dont like it when you introduce pur fantasy into something thats based strongly on reality I've found. So alot of people have said "that's stupid" when I've mentioned it.
I did have a design for her, but it's.....got far too much cyber punk mixed in it so I scraped it but I'm pretty stuck as to what I should re design her as >_<

Recently though, I had this image pop into my head of a possible outfit. Iv'e designed it around my body type, taking height and size into concideration too and thinking about what I'd look ok in. The only problem is.....I don't know what she is.

Its very roughly drawn and coloured. The colours arent set in stone and I'm very open to suggestions on colours and parts that'd work better or that dont fit at all. Suggestions as to what on earth she could be are very welcome!

Another idea in my head was to go with Juntas idea of creating a Mad Scientist/ engineer character. I'd try to come up with a design for an "assistant" which would likley have some strange...modifications due to being his assistant.

30 Aug 2010 - 15:0339559
Wow! That's a really cool looking design! ^_^

I've had machinations (pun totally intended) on my own Steampunk character for sometime now (almost a year in fact). Sadly I haven't had a great deal of time to sit and plan it out, plus I lack the skills to draw out the image I have in my head!
