Flame Princess- cosplay help?
Okay so I'm going to cosplay as Flame Princess at the next DragonCon with my boyfriend as Fin; now, his cosplay is super easy but I need help on getting started with mine

First, I'm cosplaying as Flame Princess with her short hair and dress because overall it'll be easier for me and I'm really not that experienced of a cosplayer yet.

What I need advice on though is the yellow skin; should I use body paint? If so what kind would you recommend? Or should I find tights and such the same shades of yellow?

Also, the dress.
The only sewing I've done was in Home Ec. and all I did was sew an apron and a few other small things so I'm stumped on this dress!

Lastly, the jewels. Really I need to know what is the best to make them out of, and how to get the one that goes on her forehead to stay.

Any advice will be really appreciated and helpful!

Hello First off, welcome

If you're asking for help with a costume, it's usually a good idea to include a picture as people might not know the character you're talking about.

For the yellow skin you could use bodypaint though various ones are better than others for staying on, and most will rub off onto what you're wearing a bit. Yellow tights/bodysuit would be a cleaner and quicker option, and I think I've seen people cosplay this character with normal skin colour but with more over the top facial makeup to compensate

I don't know which dress you mean, but most items of clothing can be made from patterns that you alter a bit - so either cut away or add more fabric to a normal dress pattern. Aternatively, it's always worth keeping an eye out for basic clothing that you can alter. If you put up pictures of the specific dress you're after I'm sure people can help.

I think it is pobbile to buy gems, but they might not be big enough. If you want them translucent then resin-casting is a good idea (getting 'crystal' resin, a suitable dye, and a mould), otherwise something like fimo or milliput would work (though would be heavy on your head) or even a simple paper one reinforced with glue and painted up. For keeping them in place, I've heard good things about spirit gum, or you could attach it to elastic or similar if your hair would hide the support.

Oh yeah- here's a picture for those that don't know:

And thanks a lot! I think I might use the mold for the gems and just body paint for the skin- it seems more fun to me

Hey! I'm doing Flame Princess to expo this weekend (her normal version) and I've opted to use snazaroo body paint, in ochre yellow. It's got a nice orange tint to it, rather than being flat out yellow, and personally I think it's the best colour for her - another FP recommended it and in her pics it looks fantastic! Have only tried a little on my hand so far, but it looked pretty good to me~

Though snazaroo can be an issue if you don't seal it properly to your skin - you can hairspray over yourself/have a friend spray your back/places you can't reach, and that tends to stay on pretty well!

As for the dress, I'd suggest finding a pattern that's quite close and using that - possibly putting a petticoat under it too to make it poof-out a bit? A red or orange one would suit well

Thanks! I've heard a lot of good about snazaroo but every time I look it up to get some it's always in those Halloween cases that are very small so I got confused

Thank you
