Gallery question
Hi guys,

Just joined the forum. I'm an amateur photographer, looking into the cosplay scene (oh no another one lol) and want to know if there is a facility to post up some of my work?

I don't cosplay myself, but do have friends who do and i'm looking into doing free photo sessions for cosplayers around my area.

Don't mind travelling to a right location for photoshoot.

p.s I'll be attending the london mcm expo on saturday 25th May 2013, so hope to see some of you there for free photoshoot session

John

Managed to work it out. Quite disappointed at the lack of response or help from fellow users of this forum to be honest.

Rant over.

you're entering a crowded market. If you skim though the forum (or any event forums, or Facebook pages, etc etc) you will see there's nearly as many aspiring photographers as there are cosplayers. Many of them offering "free" photshoots (i.e. asking for free models).

Scattered in among these photographers, are the creeps for whom "I want to photograph cosplayers" means "I only want to photograph sexy female cosplayers in skimpy costumes".

Just go to large events like cons and expos, and ask the cosplayers if you can take their photo. Post these on a dedicated site (Flickr, Photobucket, even a Tumblr stream). Once you've got a bit of an online portfolio you can link to, people will be less hesitant.

Alternatively, scout the event forums, find a planned group/photoshoot for a theme you like (Avengers, maids, Final Fantasy, whatever) and ask if they'd like a photographer.

Firstly, welcome to Cosplay Island.

If you want an official gallery have a look at the bottom of this page : http://www.cosplayisland.co.uk/gallery

You posted your question and it hadn't even been a day. We're now 2 and a bit weeks from May MCM, one of the biggest cosplay events in the UK calendar, people are busy crunching for the Expo. It's a slow forum, you need to give it a few days.

You also don't say in your post what area you work in.

To drum up some business a good way would be is to make some contact cards (email address, website etc, like a business card) and just hand them out when you take pictures at Expo. People can be a bit suspicious about meeting up with a complete stranger in the real world so get your name out there and meet some people in person first at an event like Expo.

Do you have a flickr or something like that? Stick the address for that up. That'll help. There's plenty of group meet ups being planned, you could offer your services to a group at Expo instead.

Good luck

Thanks for the replies guys and the for the tips, i know exactly where you're coming from, point taken.

Shall make a Flickr account, and post up my other photography images.

I will make a name for myself once i have attended enough conventions and or images/photoshoots.

Watch this space...

Once again cheers for the advice
