How to cosplay as Coach Ohta from Gunbuster
My boyfriend and I want to cosplay as Noriko and Coach for an anime convention BUT we can't seem to find a Coach Ohta costume online. This means we'll have to make it ourselves. I need ideas on how to pull it off and/or where I could buy a similar outfit. Thank you!

Firstly, welcome to Cosplay Island, hope you enjoy your time here!

Could you post up images or links to the character costumes you are trying to achieve as there may be people that can help but don't know the series you're trying recreate characters from.

It'll also generally mean you'll get a lot more answers Good luck!

Thank you kata-san!

Here are some images of Coach Ohta from Gunbuster:

And here is someone who has successfully cosplayed him:

The clothes he's wearing just looks like a tracksuit which I'm assuming it is as he's a coach. So you're probably best to find a tracksuit or training top that's the right base colour and then just add extras like the additional colour down his zip and on his shoulders.
It depends on your skill level etc As you could maybe even get a pattern for a tracksuit and make your own from scratch.

Thank you for your help. I did look up tracksuits online prior to asking about it here but I couldn't find one that looked close enough. I'm not very good at sewing or anything but I guess I'll just have to man up and try it out. I'm not exactly sure how to make the color on the shoulders and the zipper though, would I paint it on or sew it somehow? If I can figure that out, then I'll be able to do this myself.

Painting is probably not the best solution here. For the look (and durability) sewing is best.

At the most basic you could cut out some coloured panels, hem them, and sew them onto the jacket. It might look a bit scrappy, but if you don't care too much, it will be fine for a fun costume.

You could also consider taking apart a close-enough jacket (carefully!), and replacing parts with the darker fabric.

Do you have a relative or friend you can ask for help?

For the arm stripes and zipper, wide navy bias binding would do the trick:

You could iron them on using hemming tape which you can buy from any haberdashery.

Otherwise I have nothing to contribute other than to say Coach is frickin' awesome. XD

Good luck!
