Cosplaying While Pregnant
Hi there! Bit of a weird one this.

Yesterday the Wookiee and I found out that we are expecting a baby, but because of various medical reasons which I won't go into here, I had been completely oblivious to the symptoms and I could very well be quite far along - anything up to 6 months!

Obviously this poses quite the puzzle for my Professor Layton & Emmy Altava cosplay for MCM in May, because chances are the costume that I have already been making from a pattern is going to need to be altered quite a lot, especially if I'm 6 months in already.

I was just wondering if anybody had any tips and suggestions for altering a costume - do I just make it bigger around the belly, or go for an elastic waist? I was going for a dress rather than a coat because Emmy's outfit seems to be joined at the bottom. Perhaps a coat would be more suitable?

It's going to look like we have shipped Emmy & Hershel! Oh well.

I'm a bit of a novice, and this is a bit weird, so any tips and ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks very much!

Edit: oopsie, I forgot to include a reference picture! Thanks for pointing that out

Reference images usually help since not everyone knows what the characters look like (I've never seen them anyhow)

one suggestion would be to add in a panel down the side of the dress (something similar to this if possible) http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=265039.0#axzz2ST5EcHi5

like I said I can't really offer extensive help unless I'm shown the character, but this could potentially be an option without having to scrap the whole thing.

Firstly, congrats! Secondly - you can get tests and the like to find out how far gone you are :3

This lady? Cause that is a coat :3 This coat http://www.simplicity.com/p-5380-misses-miss-petite-coats.aspx

You actually shouldn't have much to worry about ^_^ You may just have to add an extra panel on either side.

Also, when you're asking about how to make a specific character, you need to include a link to that character :3

Yeah, I was always torn between the dress and the coat idea. Even though most other Emmy cosplays I have seen are with coats, my reasoning was that a) the coat could also work as a dress as it is always drawn/animated without a front opening and b) it will be hot in May, so I don't want too many layers!

That is super awesome, I will definitely use those pictures as a reference for my outfit. I have not actually started making it yet - I was going to work on it all day on Saturday but well, something came up
