|I think that this is my most favourite costume to date ^_^ And it has certainly started off somewhat of a cosplay fetish of mine now, wings!|
I started planning Alexiel way back after the May Expo, but I didn't actually get started on the contruction until just before the Midlands Expo in September, eek ^_^' And it turned out to be a pretty large project! But well worth it in the end :-)
I remade and remodelled a number of aspects of my Alexiel costume for Amecon in August 2008. The dress was originally made out of a soft, stretchable muslin like cloth, but for Amecon it was remade in a more shimmery silken material. I also remade the boot cover from PVC and had new gloves, with new buckles/belts attached to them. I also remade the headband and attached a small black jewel, suspended from the centre with 'invisble' thread ;-) The PVC was actually quite fun to work with, and fun to wear ;-) although very warm of course! The chest piece took a lot of hand sewing, but I was pleased with the result.
For Amecon I was also able to wear the wig that I had originally intended to wear for Alexiel's first outing! Unfortunately due to postal strikes at the time it arrived too late, but at last I was able to put the original wig to good use and I really love how it turned out ^_^
So now we get to the wings... Oh yes, the wings... ^_^' Well actually I had a lot of fun making them! Even if it put me off using glue guns again for a while due to all the burns ^_^' But it's not put me off so much since I am very much seriously considering a wing commission business now. It was wonderful working with so many feathers, and each one was individually cut into shape at the ends and trimmed to make them look neater before they were glued onto the harness I had made.
Alexiel has three wings, which was always bound to be a challenge to recreate! I was unable to do so for October Expo 2007 when I first wore this costume, and had to satisfy myself with just the two, but for Amecon I was finally able to create and wear all three! I don't have many pictures of this as of yet but am hoping for more once my latest Cosplay Snap photoshoot comes through :-)
To date I have no created a pair of wings, then extended into a trio of wings, a pair of black feathered wings for sjbonnar's Uriel cosplay, a chibi pair of wings for my Ball Alexiel costume, and a pair of bat wings for Morrigan :-) I even got recognised from previous costumes at the Amecon cosplay Ball due to my chibi wings and referred to as 'the wing lady' lol ^_^' But it's true, I'd feel like I was missing something now if I didn't have a costume sporting at least a few feathers!
