|MORE ARINA TANEMURA LOVE <3333 And this time a cheap costume, wahey!|
I've cosplayed Haine's rose ball dress, I've cosplayed an artbook version. I think it's about time I do her default version!! Not to mention there will hopefully be a Gentlemen's Alliance group for May Expo, along with potentially a full student council group for October Expo, THEREFORE I MUST GET THE COSTUME DONE! *flails*
1m polycotton drill £3.99
12" zip £2.40 approx
2 giant buttons £1.35
Random strips of black cotton drill I already had
The jacket fits so nicely, I'm really pleased with it! I didn't use a pattern so I had to write down measurements of various parts of my torso and see if I could come up with something - so basically I just guessed and it worked!
There were no front seams in any references so in order to make it fitted, I did my best to fit it around the sides and I added back seams as well. (Although the back seams are logical because she has a random clasp at the back!)
The jacket is just one layer of polycotton drill with the collar being double layered for thickness - because I couldn't find any interfacing around the house loool!
Finally I used strips of black fabric to sew on the details. I did a mixture of hand sewing and machine sewing for this because I was being a bit of a twit...
The black detailing of the jacket was -very- inconsistent and I found around 3-4 different variations of the black detailing in various artbook pictures and manga images. In the end, I just took out a few pictures, looked at it and tried to figure out which design cropped up more often and went along with that.
And for those who are wondering - the variations were:
- In the puffy sleeve detail, some images had the arrow stopping half way and some had the arrow going down the whole puffy sleeve, this was quite obvious though because it was quite rare to see the arrow go down the whole sleeve.
- The main thing that bugged me was the sleeve slit, sometimes it was on the inside, sometimes it was on the outside, sometimes it cut across the black strip already there (which would have made life a whole lot easier when hemming but that was a funny place to put a slit...). In the end, I went with putting the slit on the outside because it seemed most consistent.
- The last inconsistency is the side slit, a lot of images don't have it but some do (It was around 50:50), it made life a whole lot harder but I don't care, I personally think it looks cooler with the side slit!!
- As for how the black detailing on the back looks... Her hair covers it all the time (Even when she gets a hair cut, dammit Haine cut your hair shorter!), you can't SEE the black detailing at the back... So I had to resort to looking at eBay costumes and saw that they just did one straight panel at the back. So that made life a whole lot easier!
The clasp at the back is made from double layered polycotton drill, same fabric as the jacket, and just sewn on. The buttons were giant buttons I found at the fabric shop.
The red skirt I had previously made for my Jeanne costume. It's just your average box pleated skirt!
The leg warmers... Need to be made for the future. I -was- going to make some... But then I nicked the fabric for a different cosplay LOL *flails*. I've been nicking a lot of fabric from my Haine costume to make other costumes, it's the reason why it's taken me so long to make xD;;
Overall I love this cosplay. Mainly because I love the character to pieces and I like how it's made *w* I'm very pleased with the results!
It needs improvements on accuracy for the future so I will be updating this once the additions are made to the costume. But for now, this will go to complete 8D

07/05/2010 - OMG YAY! (Posted 7th May 2010)
FFFFF SO HAPPYYYYYYYY <3333333
But yaaay, all the black details are sewn on, and the zip is attached so it's a proper jacket now *_*
All I have left to do is to sew in darts at the back to make it more fitted and add that random strip thingy she has at the back... I don't know what it's called but it looks like a clasp made from fabric XD... I re-read some parts of the manga to double check! (Although with my luck I kept picking up the volumes with her not wearing her uniform, jeeeez! - Yes I use my mangas as ref rather than saving them to the computer, although saving onto the computer would be much much smarter!)
Cost: I can't remember how much the zip costed... It was a 12" zip so I estimate around £2.40-ish... Our fabric shop is overpriced.
Random note: Ignore the dangly black thread on my dress... There were a lot of loose threads when making this costume and a lot of it kept sticking to my dress >_>;;
06/05/2010 - 70% complete! (Posted 6th May 2010)
Yaaaaawn, I'm sleepy! >w<
... This jacket looks terrible on the floor, I assure you it looks much better actually on me :/

05/05/2010 - Wooo! Jacket nearly complete 8D (Posted 4th May 2010)
... Well at least the base of it... I can't do the black details or the collar until I go and buy a zip so that I can get the jacket fitted correctly >_<
This time it wasn't made from an amalgamation of three school blouses, it was made from leftover polycotton drill I had, lovely and heavyweight but not as heavyweight as normal cotton drill!
I have to say I'm really pleased with the fitting of this jacket... Because I actually took precision in measuring myself rather than taking rough measurements and then sewing random lines to the fabric, nope - I actually planned it out LOL (Waaay, I'm becoming less lazy in my sewing!)
The sleeves are much puffier than my mock up, and they're more fitted towards the bottom... You'll see when I post pictures. I'd post pictures now but my computer doesn't seem to want to accept the memory card from my camera right now :/
Time Taken: 2hrs
Random trivia: I have no idea what happened to my mock up of the jacket... It just randomly disappeared xD
08/08/2009 - Jacket progress! (Posted 8th August 2009)
Bawwww, wig was slipping back D; I took a few shots - but they turned out blurry. Then I took some more but didn't realize my wig slid back while I was running back and forth to the camera D; Ah well, you can see I've trimmed the fringe now, it's supposed to be the correct length but like I said, the wig wasn't pinned back therefore slid back on me >_<;
So anyway, here's my jacket mock up! I've learnt my lesson and so I decided to make a mock up version by using an amalgamation of three school blouses [yes, three - one for the torso, and two for the sleeves XD]. I -would- use this as the real thing however the colour is a bit off, it's not a perfect white therefore it bugs me xD
I will be using this mock up as a pattern for when I decide to buy some more white cotton drill ^_^ [Now that I look at the photos, I need to add some darts at the front to make it more fitted orz]
Time Taken - I wasn't really paying attention, three nights xD [Because I suck at jackets!]
Oopsie, socks were slipping down too >_<;
