|Back in 2013, TheStarlightFairy and I came up with the idea to cosplay genderbends of Mario and Luigi - she's a huge Nintendo fan, and Luigi has always been my favourite character in the Mario series. It would be a year later until we actually got round to cosplaying them, and we decided to do so for Play Expo 2014. We are also being joined by Mungojerrie as Toad.|
I started off by making the shirt and hat out of some green jersey I had in my fabric stash. I can't even remember where I got this fabric from, but there was literally just enough for both items of clothing - it took some creative cutting to get every piece that I needed! The emblem on the hat is made out of a little piece of white acrylic felt and another piece of green jersey for the 'L'.
After discussion of what fabrics we wanted to use (as we wanted to match), TheStarlightFairy and I both made our own dresses out of royal blue microfibre, and I used four self-cover buttons and some yellow lycra to make two buttons for each of us to use on the overall-style straps. I lined my bodice in the same microfibre and topstitched it, but did not line the skirt because it didn't really need it. I made my petticoat out of economy satin for the lining and green dress net for the poof.
My gloves were made by TheStarlightFairy in return for me making her Mario hat. <3 She saved me a job because I hate making gloves! I also decided to use a wig and a pair of brown heeled boots that I already owned.
Overall, a nice and easy costume to make and wear! I'm very happy with it. :)
