Costume Information

Cost : £56.00
Time Taken : 5-10 hours

I wanted to cosplay an X-Men character to go with sjbonnar's Beast but didn't have the time to make Shadowcat's uniform so throwing this together for now. I don't think it's very recognisable but it'll be comfy at least.

"Kitty Pryde is a generally upbeat and cheerful mutant girl who is a student at Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters. She had the ability to phase though solid objects and her powers first manifested when she was fifteen. Kitty is a loyal friend, always willing to help others in need, and is a straight A student. However, she also has some naive tendencies, due to having lived a sheltered life before joining the X-Men."

~Please see my journals for more details on the construction of this costume as well as progress photos~

All of the clothing was bought. The cropped jeans, cardigan and sandals were modified.

The wig was bought from Coscraft

I bought the backpack from Peacocks and made some alterations.

The necklace was handmade.

I first wore this costume to London Super Comic Con 2015 and I was pleased that several people recognised it as I wasn't expecting that to be honest. Overall however I wasn't very comfortable whilst wearing it, the wig was hurting/itching, the shoes kept breaking and I was self-conscious about my weight. I shall be rewearing this once I have lost some weight and sorted out the problems with the shoes. The wig really needs some more work done to it as well.

Necklace attempt (Posted 12th March 2015)

I wanted to use cream beads but I left it a bit late so gathered the most suitable ones I had in my beads/jewels box which ended up being pearls. However I didn't have the right size jewelry cord in the end so I couldn't attach the extra pearls and ended up with just the single one hanging down.

Jean modifications 2 (Posted 11th March 2015)

The peachy-orange fabric was handsewn on as I was having some issues with my sewing machine at the time. I was so pleased with the fabric I found, it's an odd colour but I think I matched it pretty well.

Jean modifications (Posted 10th March 2015)

Started off by sewing up the side slits.

Cardigan moditications 2 (Posted 9th March 2015)

The buttons were removed and a small rectangle of fabric added with velcro to make the simple closure as seen in the references.

Cardigan modifications (Posted 9th March 2015)

I made a template out of thin cardboard and cut around it along the base of the cardigan. The cut edges were handsewn together.

Finished sandals (Posted 8th March 2015)

Finished sandals.

Sandal modifications (Posted 8th March 2015)

After cutting off the old straps I made new ones from leatherette and hot glued them onto the sandals.

Backpack modifications (Posted 8th March 2015)

Removed the front pocket and other detailing.

Supplies (Posted 7th March 2015)

Managed to get all these bits in town.
