|Let it be known that I was bullied into this costume by Fuzz.|
So, we were trying to think of costumes we could do for Kita, as our original plans had unfortunately fallen through due to time constraints. Fuzz suggests to me, 'hey, how about we do Rex and Weevil?'. At first I laughed at what I assumed was a joke. Turns out he was serious. Then he said he'd be Weevil, and I thought, 'meh, Rex wouldn't be so bad to do', and we shook on it. HOWEVER, it transpired the next day that he had got their names confused and he actually wanted me to be Weevil. Shock freaking horror.
On the day though, we had such fun wearing these costumes, and we got a surprising amount of love for it, which was awesome.
TL;DR: Fuzz duped me, but I had an amazing time doing this costume anyway, despite how awful Weevil is.
The bugs on my shoes were made from DAS clay and threaded through the shoelaces. My glasses were also DAS clay moulded round an old pair of wire frames (recycled from my Kuro cosplay). I made the jacket from cotton and glued the felt beetle on afterwards. I had to paint the black on to the shoes as they were entirely green when I first got them. Luckily I still had my Duel Disk from like 10 years ago, so that was a bonus. The wig was trimmed down from an awful bob cut - my first real experience doing something major with a wig and I was fairly pleased with the result.
The hardest part of this costume was actually covering up my tattoo! I have a tattoo on my left leg that needed serious cover up to hide. Despite my worries about this, I managed to get it done with a combination of foundation, eye shadow and hairspray. The result lasted 9 hours but I think it could have easily lasted 12+
Fuzz's Rex costume was also put together by me (mostly eBay stuff, with felt detailing to the hat that I did myself).
