|Cinderella is probably the one of the biggest costumes I have ever made, that and it was an extremely huge undertaking in itself. I have been obsessing over Rodgers and Hammerstein's Cinderella ever since the years of Brandy and Whitney Houston, I watched the movie a lot when I was little and I fell in love with the songs. When I heard the Broadway's version of Ten Minutes Ago, I was immediately excited that Cinderella was going to Broadway. I saw the videos from the Oscars and after seeing Ella's glorious transformation on stage, it kind of solidified my love of this musical. |
I have rarely seen anyone cosplay from a Broadway musical in person, so I wanted to at least give Cinderella's iconic ball gown a try since nobody has cosplayed from it yet. Plus I feel like I had leveled up enough to give it a go while I was working on Anna's coronation gown.
Cinderella's main bodice fabric was some kind of heavy taffeta that was cut from a wedding dress and train that my neighbor gave me since she didn't want it. The bodice was sewn with a pattern I used for Anna's coronation gown while belong slightly altered to make room for the sleeves then was overlaid with a crinkled organza and trimmed all around with ribbon, lace, sequins and rhinestones. The sleeve base is made of satin and are overlaid with Chantilly lace which is a super light material and ended up not giving me the effect I wanted. I may remake them but as of right now, they're all right. :/
The skirt is comprised of 7 layers :o I believe in the musical she has about 9-10 layers. But I knew I was wearing a hoop skirt underneath it so I figured the hoop would supply the volume. There's 3 skirts of light bridal satin, A disfigured peplum of organza and 3-4 layers of tulle that has been bunched up at the waist. I sewed them all together and trimmed each of the satin skirts with silver lace. There's a few tears in the tulle but you can't really see them and I glued rhinestones on the top layer to catch the light.
The glass slippers and the crown were bought and altered. The slippers were cut to the accurate shape and rhinestones were added on them. The crown was bought from Ebay and was bedazzled completely to hide the designs.
The wig was actually styled using a tutorial my friend Zulma sent me. I didn't "exactly" accomplish the look I wanted, but I'm pretty proud. First updo! Go me :)

Stressful Times (Posted 25th July 2014)
Ehhh.....It's been a long day struggling with these sleeves. William Ivey Long made these monsters impossible to replicate. I'm not really happy with their turnout but I think I'll remake them with the accurate fabric sometime after I debut it. At least I got the sleeves to fit comfortably on me, and I still have some wiggle room to dance at the ball with :)
Detail Work (Posted 23rd July 2014)
Working on adding detail work tonight for my Cinderella dress. I just added the glitter ribbon along the front and back of the bodice and then now I'm adding this sort of bejeweled lace detailing on the back of the bodice. I may add more on some places, maybe on the sleeves and on the front before I get to the sleeves. All in all I'm pretty proud :)
Bodice about 40% done :) (Posted 4th April 2014)
I spent yesterday and today actually sewing the bodice of the dress together. I just finished sewing the crinkled organza overlay onto the pieces and now I've pieced them all together. I just started sewing some sequins on the bodice and it looks really nice so far. I still have a little ways to go before I finish it. But I don't have that far to go now :)
And so....it begins. (Posted 23rd March 2014)
I already started cutting out the bodice already. Well the base layer of it anyway.
I used a taffeta fabric from a Wedding dress that my neighbor gave to me that I completely ripped apart XD
Tiara (Posted 19th October 2013)
It may not be made of diamonds but it's a real sparkly one to say the least XDD
Glass Slipper Base (Posted 19th October 2013)
I'm just kind of Material scouting for now but I managed to find these really nice plastic clear slippers for a Cinderella costume on Ebay. Luckily they run to about a size 12 so I'm pretty content :)
I hate the butterfly motif on the front but I'm coating these things in a crapload of rhinestones so it won't be seen
