|I wanted to make this because I'd been playing as Captain Falcon a lot in Super Smash Bros Brawl. I also wanted to see how many people would know who he was.|
The hardest part of making the costume was all the work on the helmet. Ie started by spraying the standard motorcycle helmet with red Plasti-Kote paint; it took 4 coats to look any good. I then set about making the Falcon Emblem out of cardboard, sprayed gold. The round parts on the sides of the helmet were made from sponges, also sprayed gold. I later realised that the red spray on the rubber part of the helmet wasn't going to dry, so I took that off with White Spirit and later touched up the rest of the helmet.
Another really difficult part of the costume to make was the visor. I had decided to use a pair of safety goggles sprayed a clear-blue (Plasti-kote Glass spray: apparently gives a clear colour, like with stained glass), but when I applied the spray it was AWFUL. It came out of the can in lumps and did not give a good effect, so that was White Spirit-ed off. I then remade the eye-holes with sticky labels and painted the visor a solid black (no spray this time).
The boots, surprisingly, were easiest to spray. Two coats of gold paint and they were done.
I learned that Plasti-Kote paint is really bad at times...
The costume isn't easy to wear. The helmet is very tight fitting, very heavy and you get quite hot wearing it. Other than that it's fine, but I most likely won't wear it again for a long time.
