Description
So this is my first cosplay costume. I picked Xerxes cos I love Pandora Hearts and his outfit and thought it might be a good one to try out.

I ended up being pretty happy with how it turned out and definitely have the bug now. Still want to make some additions to this for next time I wear it, like adding Emily and a cane sword but for a debut, I think it turned out well. It survived both days of MCM London anyways!!

Journal

All over! (Posted 28th October 2013)

Ok, so I didn't quite keep up to date on the journal entries but all in all the weekend went quite smoothly. I got a few compliments on the outfit although no one stopped me outright and wanted a photo but it was only my first cosplay so I know there is plenty I can improve on. More importantly I had lots of fun and learnt a lot from the experience. I still have more to do like making Emily and a cane sword (that will be allowed at the con!) so watch this space!

I definitely have the bug now and can't wait to pick my next character! :)

Nearly time for a test! (Posted 30th September 2013)

I'm so chuffed! I've finished the detail on the shirt and the coat so now, I just need to add the bag and get Emily made. Oh, and paint the boots. With three weeks left to go, now I just need to focus on the confidence to actually wear this outside the house!

Woo Hoo! (Posted 2nd September 2013)

Okay so last week's progress had me buzzing and I finally actually started to believe I can do this. I have hit a little bit of a hurdle as I'm not sure the main body of the coat is the right shape, it seems to fall straight and I'm not quite sure how to get it to flare properly. I'm gonna try some inserted triangles to widen the bottom and some darts to add shape (thank Google for the ideas!)

Also had my wig and contacts both arrive today so nearly ready for a test shoot...

And the coat is underway! (Posted 28th August 2013)

Okay, I found the perfect material yesterday for the coat so managed to start on it today. It was a little more than I hoped to pay but I wanted quality.

I have managed to complete one sleeve today which I was really chuffed with as I thought it would take longer, esp as I winging the design. If I can get the second sleeve done tomorrow then I still have a few of my days off to sort the main body of the coat before I go back to work next week.

Would be awesome to have it complete before September. Then I might even have time to consider making the cane rather than buying it.

Taking shape... (Posted 17th August 2013)

I bought my first sewing machine today. Just a mini little one but seems to be doing the job. I also have received lots of my stuff now so the basic skeleton of the outfit is complete (apart from the coat). Hopefully my samples will arrive next week.

Hmm... (Posted 15th August 2013)

Getting excited as I'm getting parts of the outfit arriving now. So far I've gotten the shirt and braces, with boots arriving next week and contacts ordered. Also getting a sample of material for the coat shortly.

I'm debating the construction now. I've not really had much experience with sewing and concerned I might make a mess of it especially as I don't have a sewing machine. Might be worth seeing it I can borrow one... not really sure where to get all the scraps of materials for the little details either

Shopping, shopping, shopping (Posted 13th August 2013)

Ok, so I figure the first priority is to make sure I get all the right materials. Especially as I haven't done something like this before, I need to start with things that are easy to work with. Luckily, I've been pretty lucky in some bargain finds, including Ebay purchases of the shirt and an Amazon bargain for the boots. I decided ankle boots were a better option as I'm not tall enough to pull off cropped trousers and calf high boots... Both will need some minor alterations to fit the style but I reckon these are easily fixed.

The coat is definitely going to be the biggest job. I'm in two minds as to whether I should get a cheap white coat and alter or just buy the material and make it from scratch. The second is scary as I've not made anything before but I have some ideas and hopefully with some tips from a few mates, I'll pull it together. The advantage is that I can get closer to the look I want and really make it my own at the same time. I plan to use a secret weapon in my design though... watch this space!

Still have plenty to source but the ideas are coming together so far...
