Finished my mask (Posted 18th May 2013)

Ok finally finished it. The paint job isn't perfect but other than that Im happy with how its turned out. Just used whatever paints I had in the house. I plan on sealing it but don't have anything to do that with yet.

Almost there (Posted 16th May 2013)

Ok now Iv got all the sculpting done for my mask the only thing I have left to do is paint it. Finally. I added the strips of fimo by smoothing them on with some water. Then I just shaped them how I wanted. I didn't want them flat so I only pressed on them slightly to make sure they were definitely stuck on.

Finished dress and tabard (Posted 15th May 2013)

Finished the dress although I'm not sure if I want to rip the bottom of it up or not yet. I had to make another tabard because the other one I made didn't fit over my dress at all. It looked awful.

Thus more mask (Posted 15th May 2013)

I got my dad to cut out some holes for me and then I placed my napkin rings where I wanted them. I then sealed them in by smoothing some caulk around the grooves on both the inside and the outside of the masks around the rings. This filled in the gaps around the rings as well.

More mask making (Posted 14th May 2013)

I decided to add a layer of fimo over the top of the modroc because I didn't like how rough and lumpy it was. I used a rolling-pin to smooth out a large flat piece of fimo and then smoothed it over the base. Once it had dried I sanded it down a bit in places to smooth out the overall shape. Still not completely smooth but I can live with it. I also cut out the circles for Sans earrings. Just waiting for my earring blanks to come. I need clip on because I don't have my ears pierced.

Gosh I like the word smooth lol.

Mask testing (Posted 11th May 2013)

I added the modroc to the paper mache base. I placed it onto my head to see what it looked like and the first time it just sat on my forehead and looked awful so the second time (in the picture) I placed some foam inside it before I put it on my head and it sits much better and doesn't touch my forehead at all. It sticks out quite far at the sides but I tested it by holding some fur under it and with the fur you cant notice how much it sticks out at all.

Necklace (Posted 11th May 2013)

My spikes have completely dried and I added some beads to see what it would look like. I think ill keep it like that when Iv done the fur.

Started my dress (Posted 11th May 2013)

Sewn most of my dress. All I have left to do is sew on the poppers at the back and put in the rips at the bottom. I made the dress pattern for the top half of the dress too small and unfortunately I had already cut out the fabric so I had to add extra strips to the dress but it doesn't look bad at all. I also made the top out of four separate parts so that I could put all the seams inside and not visible. The bottom is only made from two pieces of fabric.

Ashitaka's Necklace (Posted 6th May 2013)

When the clay had dried I painted it and wrapped some red wool around it.

Started the Necklace Parts (Posted 5th May 2013)

Made the necklace pieces from some air dry clay I had. Its not the best stuff in the world but it will do. Planning on buying some blue beads for the other parts of the necklace. My clay isn't good enough to make them.

Making my Tabard (Posted 5th May 2013)

Started by cutting out a pattern from some newspaper and adjusting to the shape and size I wanted. Then I cut out the fabric, which was difficult because Im using jersey for it which is pretty stretchy. Ended up cutting it out twice because the first one didn't cut straight at all.

Arm bands (Posted 5th May 2013)

Made the bands for my arms. They could have looked a lot better but my sewing machine didn't appreciate the metal. Made from navy binding, poppers and washers.

Finished the boots (Posted 5th May 2013)

Well my mum finished both my boots today. The second one went a lot quicker than the first because we actually new what we were doing for it. They are made out of canvas and then some linen for the base. Planning on putting something else on the bottom because its pretty slippery. We made it so that I can pop my feet with shoes on inside.

Started my boots (Posted 4th May 2013)

Basically because I was having so much trouble making these myself my mum had to make them for me. We started by cutting out some patterns from newspaper and then cutting and sewing the fabric together. There was a lot of adjusting it to fit as good as we could get it.

Materials (Posted 2nd May 2013)

Slowly getting all my materials together. Iv now got my fur, dress fabric, tunic and pouch fabric, canvas to go over the shoes, clay for the accessories, blue fimo for Ashitaka's necklace, thread, binding to make the arm and head pieces for which im planning on using washers for the circular parts, napkin rings and my paper mache mask base.

I also have my finished spear but its obviously not in the picture. Dont know whether i'll use the velcro or not. Iv also just ordered my modroc so just waiting for that to arrive. Then I need to find some clip on earring backs because I dont have my ears pierced, so Ill need them to make the earrings.

Started my mask. (Posted 29th April 2013)

For the base of the mask I just used paper mache over a metal kitchen bowl. I used 3 sheets of newspaper over it but thats up to how thick people want it. I plan on covering the rest in modroc to make it thicker and firmer. I'm also using the napkin rings for the mouth and eye holes.

Making my spear (Posted 20th April 2013)

Started on making the main parts for Sans spear. Made the spear head from wood and the pole is literally just a metal pole that I spray painted black. The picture is just after I had sawed off the parts of the wooden blocks that I wanted to. Then after that I used a rasp and sandpaper to smooth the whole thing down to the shape I wanted.
