|Okay, it's no secret that I love Sora's character. I don't care that he looks 12, but he's sweet and a fun character. His first outfit was kinda cool, but the all-in-one baby grow jumpsuit didn't do it for me - however when they released the designs for Kingdom Hearts 2 I couldn't stay away. I mean c'mon, they added BELTS.|
The main thing I tried to do in the costume was to keep the shapes he has, so some of the clothes we made in a slightly odd way (and were an arse to pack) but stick out in the right places.
I used T-shirting for the ...tshirt, sweatshirt fabric for the jacket and black chap things, and polycotton drill for the rest. His shoulder guards are odd, and change whether you look at art, CG, game, etc. I used leather in the end, to give them a more structured look, without being solid.
I used plastic corset boning in the jacket bottom, front (where the zip it) & sleeves to help keep the shape right. I also did this on the black chaps (where the white bits are on the knees) to keep them round shaped. The yellow straps for the bags and the belt are funky foam covered with material.
The gloves were a bit of a fail, I tried to make them but got frustrated, and ended up cannibalizing old gloves and decorating them!
The crown is spray painted acrylic, cut out with a jigsaw and sanded down, and I used metal chain for the necklace as that is all I could find at the time the right size. For the love of god, don't do this unless you have good metal cutters - I pretty much gave myself a hernia trying to split the links! (..and have now invested in a good cutter for next time...)
The wig, well that was fun! First time properly styling a wig, took me the best part of a whole day but was quite therapeutic. It didn't come out the exact shape at the back and sides due to the way the wig hairs lay, but I'm proud of my first attempt! Cutting needed a bit of work though :D Was styled just using treseme freeze hold hairspray and a hairdryer, which kept it spikey through two cons, being squashed, sat on and washed. So yeah, I trust that stuff.
Shoes! These were the time consuming bit. I used platform trainers so I could make them bigger without contorting the shape too much. I built the shape up using bits of foam & thick wooly fabric with insulation tape to keep it together, and made the bootcover to go over the top. Didn't really think about the whole getting them on and off thing, and they were damn heavy!
Wow if you read that I commend you, sorry I ramble! I wore this twice and had a lot of fun, especially as people actually knew who I was cosplaying for once! Doing it again I would be able to style the wig a bit neater and figure a better way for the shoes! (I keep on looking at the other form costumes....)
