|Awards :||1st Place Masquerade, with Fishyfins as Balthier (at KitaCon '09)|
|Suiting up as Fran was, for lack of a better phrase, a pain in the much exposed butt!|
When I first played the game in 2006 I didn't think much to it, but replaying it March '09 gave me the boost I needed to cosplay her for KitaCon in April. I was very ill before the con so nothing was getting done and I had to produce most of this in the two days before the convention (which I'm told is a testament to my skill). Two days worth of work, and salvaged items made this one of the most makeshift costumes I've ever made but I like the way it looks. Because I love Fran to pieces I'll be remaking and modifying and updating this costume over time, including adding lots of extensions and thickness to the wig (which actually, I had the wig done since early March I believe to make sure I actually did the costume!), silverising the entire of the armour, fitting it properly (the first time I tried it all on was at the convention!) and adding elastic and etc inside it to make sure it will all stay up properly and strengthening the armour. Whilst wearing the false nails I couldn't do anything at all so poor Fishyfins had to do nearly everything for me for the entire day! What a darling Balthier ^^
This was quite exciting (if a little stressful and time-pressed) to make, with many different fabric and materials and techniques and processes. I can't wait to make a bow for her, but I have yet to decide which one!
To wear, well, it was a lot of fun and I couldn't help but slip into her voice every now and again! I will definitely be wearing this to future cons!
Notes: I updated the bustier design and went with a more pointed top than Fran's straight across design, mainly to accomodate my bust but also because I just like it more and like to take liberties with my costumes! Besides that, it's all accuracy baby including the split heel which actually doesn't make much difference to walking around!
