| Because Raine wanted to do a group and I am clearly nuts. Was going to wear it to May Expo 2013, but just did not have time to finish it, so decided to wear it to Glasgow Expo/Comic Con instead. I'd rather do it well for later than rush it. | |

Day 3: Mask Construction (Posted 10th May 2013) So I got the whole base made and ready for papier machee-ing on Sunday. Of course, as it's just masking taped together, some of the more delicate bits have already fallen off, but I'll sort it when I get to covering it. Probably only took me an hour, hour and a half tops to do. It'll take a lot longer to papier machee & paint right enough though! It looks a lot like a transformer atm. |

Day 3: Mask Construction Overview (Posted 10th May 2013) The mask base is made mostly of masking tape and hope atm. I started off with construction cardboard, but I couldn't find my steel ruler (probably outside), so I just winged it. I had to simplify the design a bit as scale isn't my forte and I, personally, am not even the height of an average human female, let alone a bajillion feet tall, fictional magical wizards' tower with a giant flaming eyeball floating above it... Then I broke out the aluminium modelling mesh to make a base for the whole thing to sit on that will suggest the main shape of the tower, it's about the width of my shoulders, so not very wide and quite easy to get through doors; though a nightmare to transport I'm sure, just as well my other expo costumes are essentially just my clothes an a wig (sort of)! |

Day 3: The Eye (Posted 10th May 2013) Yes, that is a hamster ball you see there. It says "easy click", but let me tell you now, "easy click" it is not! It took me about 10 mins to figure it out and get it to work. lol. My floor is also now covered with shed fibre-optics from the novely hair extensions I used for the lighting. I learned from my Loki Tesseract as well and instead of filling it with (expensive & heavy) gems and pva glue, I just used cellophane... now if only I'd figured that out before last Ame! The painting isn't done yet & I need to glue on a leather patch for the iris, but both of those things are in "the hobby room" *coughropeloftcough* and I couldn't be bothered going outside where it's cold and was getting dark. That's what Sunday's for. |

Day 3: Materials for Mask (Posted 10th May 2013) So, as once I'd spent the day doing important bizniz phonecalls and costings for my super awesome new social enterprise I'm working on atm, it was bit late to fire up the sewing machine (#livingathomewithparentswhogotobedsuperearly) to finish the commission I'm working on atm, I decided to make a start on the Tower mask/headpiece base. The plan is to dedicate tomorrow to finishing the commission & then doing pattern cutting for the Tower top & skirt base whilst I'm in working with fabric mode; then papier machee-ing & moddelling clay-ing the poop outta the mask base on Sunday. |
|
Day 3: Gloves (Posted 10th May 2013) So, as me + polyester = an itchy & unhappy Pudding, I had to take the lining out of my base gloves. Discovered lots of tiny 6's stuck all over the inside (glove size?). The feel scrumptious now, it's just as well I'm not a vegetarian (for more reasons than one). I kind of like the inside better than the outside now though, so they might get turned back inside out again, we'll see. |
|
Day 2: Fabric Dyeing (Posted 9th May 2013) So, I started with a whole heck of a lot of cotton canvas because I can't do synthetic, it's relatively cost-effective and it takes dye well. Apparently the only colour I ever dye anything is Dylon's Antique Grey... Also, some bonus corduroy which I didn't dye but I did wash on Day 1. |
|
Day 1: Pre-washing Fabric (Posted 8th May 2013) I needed to pre-wash all my fabric (and some fabric for other costumes & a commission), so I just did all the washing in the house at the same time. Here's a nice picture of all my sexy silk, most of which is recycled sari-silk ribbon. It feels well lush. ;P |

I can't wait to make it, but I'm not allowed to until I've completed my list of important tasks... I may be powering through that list faster than I normally would just so I can start making this... :D
