|To wear along with Sillabub's Queen Chrysalis at Minamicon! Can't wait ;)|
I really enjoyed the finale of season 2 of MLP, especially with all the songs (I do like a good musical). I like Cadence, admittedly not as much as Princess Celestia, she's my favourite XD but I still like the colour scheme of her hair, and that will be interesting to incorporate into a wig!
Most Cadences I see do the wedding dress or just a pretty dress version - so in relation to our skit and because I feel like it, I'm doing the version of her when she's trapped underground and escapes with Twilight Sparkle to save Shining Armour. So ripped dress, dirt on face, etc. Fun fun fun!
HOW I MADE IT:
I had a dress pattern from Miku last year, so I made the dress from dusky pink polycotton, just made it a bit shorter! (and without the massive hoopskirt haha)
I used a sleeve pattern from another pattern, and combined them yessss power of fusionnnnn and then made all the skirts and sleeves torn and raggedy that was fun...
I made Cadence's cutie mark out of yellow and blue felt, and blue sequins. This took a lot of handsewing but I'm happy with the result, plus the felt was all scraps - cosplay on the cheaaappp
The wings took a couple of attempts, I first made them from cardboard and then glued fabric feathers I had made from spare polycotton onto the wings. It looked good and then the cardboard warped from being wet and it looked bad so I had to scrap that idea.
Sillabub and I had seen a tutorial on making wings, and I decided to go with that instead - I bought some pink felt, created the wings and then stuck wire into them, with a loop in the middle that goes down my dress (and it stayed secure all day so it worked really well!) Then I glued pink marabou trim along the top, and attempted to spray die the ends purple. Hahaha it came out ok but could have been better!
The ears and horn were made from felt again. The horn was made by making the triangular shape, sewing it together, stuffing it, then using thread to wind round the horn to create the swirly effect. It came out better than I expected and I really love that technique!
The wig was my first time using wefts! I bought a pink and blonde gradient wig from Coscraft, and some seperate purple hair extensions. I detached the clips from the extensions, and cut one up to make the fringe. I attempted to sew them using the cosplay.com tutorial but I kept doing it wrong and I decided to quit while I was ahead. So I ended up sealing the ends with Bostik all purpose glue. It's not perfect, I was still pulling out purple strands after sewing the wefts in, but I'm still happy. I tried to curl the bottom bits and it worked for like 5 minutes then they got a bit unravelled XDD;; curses!

Finished! (Posted 25th February 2013)
As of today, Cadence is officially finished! Well, apart from contact lenses, but I couldn't really afford them - never mind! It was a good experience learning about wefting and what works!
Progress (Posted 16th January 2013)
I've bought pink polycotton for the dress, which I will be ripping up and dirtying a bit. Opted out of purple lenses for the time being due to money restraints. Also decided to go barefoot rather than have shoes - this won't be too much of an issue as the con is mostly indoors :) Have a lot of scraps I can use for the cutie mark sash! Scraps are good
