| Yep! My Sunday cosplay at 2012’s October Expo was Souta, the cute little shota from otome-game Otomeki Koi Kakumei Love Revo!, also known as Girlish Love Revolution. An incredibly silly, offensive and absurd game about a horrible caricature of a fat girl having to lose weight to chase after boys, many of whom insult her a whole lot. For all it’s supposed to expose Japan’s very twisted views on body-image, though – and for all there’s ample evidence for that – I’d also point out that to my surprise, main character Hitomi turns out to be one of the most genuinely likeable, interesting and sensible main characters in any visual novel (or manga adaptation) I’ve ever come across. Especially on Souta’s route, where losing weight isn’t important and if anything Hitomi just has to avoid him undermining his attempts to feed her lots of sweets (not because he’s a feeder like her nii-chan – because he loves sweet things and assumes everyone else does). And Souta is so very cute. I’m not given to playing otome games, or any visual novels, but Souta is the only reason I played through this one. What an adorable, silly kid. So here is my version. Thankless in terms of getting recognized – of course! – but lots of fun to do. Lots of cakes didn’t hurt either! | |
