|Awards :||Best Performance at Ayacon 2013|
|Time Taken :||1 month|
|Well I fell in love with Ariel's Designer Dress the moment I saw it and then showed the designs to a couple of friends who also loved them and said they wanted to do other Princesses. Soon enough we had a full group and we've been quietly working on the dresses since. This, along with the Graces group, is easily my favourite group ever. Not just because it's all the Disney Princesses (dream group) in their Designer dresses (so lush) but they're all really good friends of mine. It will be very special 8'D|
We also have a masquerade performance for the Sunday which we're hoping others will find funny XD
My Ariel base dress is a custom patterned dress made of duchess satin to help support the weight of the layers which totaled 8lbs. With 4m of duchess satin, 4m of lining and 12m of assorted taffeta colours contributing to the total weight. Each layer is hand stitched onto the main dress. There are four small loops secured to the lining to hook onto clear bra straps. The dress is too heavy to stay up without support.
The wig is made from two wigs and the golden shell ornament is made from air dry clay. One wig is shorter than the other where the front of the cap has been whip stitched to the back and stuffed with wadding around a cardboard tube to help give it the beehive (though I think they structure has taken a bit of a beating). This was then hand stitched onto the crown of the longer wig. This helps give it a cascade of curls without detracting from the initial volume.
For Ayacon I used some small stick on pearl gems and decorated the beehive liberally with them. I also put a few into the fringe and the hair I wore at the front, more at the top and getting less as it went down to look like a cascade of pearls.
The gloves were bought and decorated with diamonte.
The shoes were a lucky find on ebay and were actually the first thing I bought for the costume. I felt they were perfect because of the three colours and criss-cross nature of the straps, to me, echoed the dress.
