|This is my 2nd costume, Queen Esther Blanchett from the Trinity Blood THORS Artbook. |
I decided to make this costume as I'm a Trinity Blood fan but also because I've always been an enthusiast of the Tudor/ Elizabethan era.
First I made a tradition Elizabethan BUM-ROLL:
I used cotton fabric to make it filled it with polyfill stuffing so it looked like a life ring. This then sits on your hips and lifts the whole dress up, giving it that volume that was fashion during that era.
Six-ringed HOOP SKIRT: Expensive to make so I advise anyone interested in making Esther* to buy one instead. I made it using over 22m of Steel boning & 5m of white satin.
TULLE Under skirts: Used about ~20m of white tulle netting to make 3 x under skirts to cover the wired hoop skirt.
OUTER SKIRT: Made out of 5m thick white satin fabric, hand-painted with over 700 flowers. I used red Swarovski rhinestones in the centre of each flower, and handmade ~25 small red satin to decorate the bottom of the dress. The bottom of the dress is also decorated with hundres of small pearls and sequins.
CROWN: Made out of Cardboard and craft foam bent to shape, painted with silver acrylic, varnished and decorated with
- 1116 Glass Pearls
- 1024 Rhinestones of which 700 are Swarovski crystals.
Time taken about 2 weeks from start to finish
