|Shadow of Memories is a time-travelling murder-mystery game in which main character Eike Kusch is killed in various different ways and then has to go back and avoid his fate each time by rearranging things in the past to stop each attempt on his life. It plays out like a third-person interactive story and you gradually piece everything together to figure out who the murderer is. I really loved how unique this game was. I love both time-travel stories and plot twists so I loved how the game kept me guessing all the way through.|
I’ve been wanting to cosplay as Margarete for a long time now. Dana and Hugo are my favourite characters from the game, but Margarete also has one of the key roles in the story and also one of the most memorable outfits so I felt that I really wanted to cosplay as her. I love the lace-up detail on the front and that it also has enough detail on the bottom of the dress to keep the design interesting without looking too busy. The game uses the interesting idea of assigning each time period a different colour-scheme. In the 1500s everything looks to be in different shades of earthy-brown ( apart from Eike who always remains in full colour to show that he’s from the present day ). We later find that Margarete’s dress actually mainly consists of two different shades of blue which I think suits it really nicely.
I’m planning on wearing this for the Saturday of AmeCon 2012 so that I can wear it for the Masquerade, and also plan to change into it again on the Sunday evening for the Cosplay Ball. It will actually be my first ball dress since so far I have gone as Tamaki from Ouran for most Ball events, or more recently for the FushiCon Masked Ball I went as Dana ( with Eike’s juggler mask ). I’m particularly planning this for AmeCon since I’d really like to do a photoshoot with her at Lindsey Court which is where I did a shoot with my juggler Eike at the previous AmeCon. The cobble-stones and shallow steps really reminded me of Lebensbaum, the rural village that the game is set in. I want to make the most of the location while I have the chance so I should be bringing my waitress Dana and maybe my juggler Eike again as well.
Margarete is part of the Wagner household and lives during the 1500s. Doctor Wagner is an alchemist, his wife Helena is very frail and is bedridden, and young Hugo is often concerned that his father is paying far too much attention to his work rather than his sickly mother.
When you first meet Margarete she is in trouble with some of the local townsfolk who feel that she is " dressing above her station ". It seems that she does not always act or dress quite as understatedly as she is expected to in the 1500s. She is keen to hear stories from Eike about the present day ( the year 2001 ) and says that she feels a strong pull towards it. She also tells how a keepsake comb triggers vague thoughts about a man who pats her on the head which she is a bit puzzled over... It’s also mentioned that she’s a seamstress.
UPDATE: ( 12/11/12 )
Ended up debuting this cosplay at October Expo 2012 instead of AmeCon. Many thanks to Shido for making the dress for me. I love how detailed the embroidery on the sleeves is and they just fit my hands through perfectly without being too loose. And the main thing I was a little concerned about was if the top would be too low but that worked out perfectly as well ^^ It also includes the little carry pouch she has on one side which I really love.
And thanks to PaperTiger for helping take pictures for me. I did buy some body tape in advance in case I had any problems with the top and it turned out that it would have been useful to hold the shoulders more upright, but with it being on the day we had to book out of the hotel all my stuff was in the reception's left-luggage and I forgot to keep it with me so I made do without. I didn't want to keep bothering them since I already had to dip in and out of my luggage a few times later on in order to get changed again before I was actually ready to take everything home. So yeah, next time I wear this I'll see how the body tape works and will see if I can pin the dress up a little bit too since it was a little longer than expected =)
I'll most likely be re-wearing this at AyaCon 2013 since it has lots of lovely locations there ^^
Wig Preview (Posted 31st July 2012)
I was a bit worried about if my wig would be delivered in time for AmeCon, as I'd only have about 3 days difference if they went over the maximum of the estimated 10-20 days delivery time. Luckily it turned up on Saturday which was much earlier than expected, so I'm a happy bunny now ^^ I also got my Alessa Gillespie wig in the same package since I'd ordered it from the same seller. I will be wearing eyeliner and some light makeup when I cosplay Margarete to hopefully make it look a bit better - I didn't bother just for this test shot ^^"
