|For the main body I used a white halter swimsuit, altered at the top and also tailored in at the waist. |
I converted a bra into front fastening and covered with white streatch lycra and joined this to the body back and sides.
Then I made the hip roll and arm roll details using upholstery foam and covered them with the white lycra material and hand sewed them onto the body.
Working without a pattern I tried 3 times to make a decent 'rough' skirt shape using old material. Finally when it looked right I used this as a pattern to cut the Red duchess silk material.
Gloves were also made with the same streatch lycra, and the rings were made just like the hip roll.
Bows were simple rectangles machine sewed leaving a small hole to turn them inside out, stuffed with a piece of foam for stiffening, then pinched in the centre and held by a piece of material to make the bow shape, and fixed onto the body.
Sailor collar was made hand sewn on.
Red front bow button/broach was made using a plastic toy with car body filler sculpted into a dome, and all painted red.
Tiara is a cheapie off ebay.
Wig also off ebay.
Shoes -I'm lucky I have small feet so I can just get normal womens sizes, good old ebay again!
I get into the costume by stepping into it through the top, then fasten the bra together, and fix the front bow, which hides the join.
Sailor Mars masquerade performance can be seen on youtube - thanks to Tonyo- here is the web address http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=qn84-HBBxtE
