Semi-roped into this by Sakurahana, who is being Celestia. Aiming for a try-hard overly princessy kind of look, because Luna doesn't quite get how to be a princess yet after being Nightmare Moon for ages. I based the design off the princess dresses you see made for young girls: an inordinate amount of sparkles, chiffon and tulle! The bodice is a navy blue velvet corset, with a fichu made from the same material as the overskirt. The skirt is a 3-layered 3/4 circle skirt attached to the bodice. The underlayer is a sparkly tulle net. The middle/main layer is a shimmery blue cotton-like fabric I found inordinately cheap in a fabric shop sale (£1.35 a metre with 20% off!). The top/over layer is a black chiffon with glitter and beads glued to it in an erratic pattern (again, on sale!). The overall desired effect is that the skirt looks like the night sky. I've made gauntlets/gloves to match the skirt, with the cutie mark on the back of the hand. Cutie mark is black felt with a sparkly embroidered moon. Worn with a black velvet choker and whatever jewellry I deem appropriate on the day ^^

Almost done (Posted 6th September 2012)

P much finished the gauntlets, just got to put on some rings. The emboridery took much longer than I thought.
Did a make-up test but forgot to take pictures XD

More progress (Posted 2nd September 2012)

The dress is now done! See 'photos' for a close up of the bodice.
To add some glitz to it, I threaded silver ribbon around the blue shirt and put silver ribbon and a moon bead on the bottom of the corset. I then made a fiche (i think that's what they call it) out of top-skirt fabric, and attached it to the front and back of the corset (so I can adjust where I want it to sit). Finally, I put a brooch in the top centre of the corset.
The photo is me wearing the dress without a petti. I will be wearing one on the day for extra princessy poof!

Next I'm going to make gauntlets so my arms don't look so bare! I will incorporate the cutie mark onto the gauntlets as there's no where on the dress I can really put it without it looking odd. Thanks to Luminescence for her advice on this matter!

Skirt (Posted 28th August 2012)

Well, I finished the bodice, complete with lining and boning.
So I decided to move onto the skirt. GAAAAAH
I'm using 3 different fabrics for this skirt and when I was putting them together earlier, I honestly thought I was drowning in fabric. Sooo happy with how it;s looking so far!
Got a cosplay making day at a friends' house on Thursday, when I will hopefully attach the skirt to the bodice and get some progress pictures!

Starting (Posted 25th July 2012)

Started on the bodice/corset, same pattern as my Ariel one, but have stopped for now because it's making a huge mess.
Decided to use velvet because it looks princessy, but now I am covered in navy blue fluff I AM REGRETTING EVERYTHING

bought some navy blue velvet for the bodice of the dress, and some beautiful sparkly net to go over the skirt :)
My idea is a knee length prom-style dress using princessy fabrics with a blue/black colour scheme. The sparkles on the skirt fabric are erratic and so look like the night sky!
