Costume Information

Description
An ambitious one from me, mostly because of all the embroidery!

Bride's Story isn't that well known but as soon as I saw the artwork I thought I'd have to cosplay as the main character. Her costume is so gorgeous! Since it's an historical costume I want to be as historically accurate as possible while not driving myself completely insane or bankrupt XD

The undergarments will be made using Butterick pattern B4406. The skirt will be made using Simplicity pattern 5403 and the dress will be made using New Look pattern 6305.

Fabric-wise, I'm using dupioni silk for the undergarments but I've bought some calico for the skirt and cotton for the dress, both of which I hope will be acceptable if not entirely historically accurate! If it doesn't look right when I've made each piece, I can always buy more fabric. I'm not planning to start the embroidery (which will all be done by hand) until I'm happy with the garments so if I do have to start over, it won't be too big a task!

Hopefully this will be ready in time for Amecon, as I want to enter Eurocosplay with it!

Oh wow, I'd love to see this!
Good luck with the embroidery, it's certainly very detailed.

What a cute design! Reminds me of traditional eastern European dress, is that what it's based on?

More Central Asian than Eastern European! The manga doesn't specify exactly where it's set, only that it's somewhere on the Silk Road, near the Caspian Sea. I've done some digging and I'm fairly sure now that it's the national dress of Turkmenistan. Unfortunately it's proving very difficult to get much more information about Turkmen costume, so I'm making a lot of educated guesses about fabrics and such!
