|Every piece of my clothing was referenced specifically making sure it was identical to the movie- using the exact fabrics that Weta used. (Cotton velvet, linens, herringbone tweeds...)|
I cut every pattern from scratch using a block pattern, matching seams, tailoring details, lining and even specific cuffs exactly to how I could see them in the movie.
We also designed Clood's Witch King garments ourselves. As there's no clear reference of what the Nazgul are actually wearing, I patterned and made 5 layers of different robes (each a different fabric- mainly using raw silks, linens, wools...), all designed particularly to fall and drape in a way that when she moved you could see the different fabrics showing through. We used around 30 metres of fabric in total on her costume.
Each individual layer was also hand weathered using a wire brush, paint, bleach, mud- it was burned, hand-frayed, shredded, everything you can imagine!
My Mithril Maille itself was 50+ hours of hand woven chainmail using aluminum rings. The collar was made from an aluminum gauze, backed with a metal woven fabric and embellished with Swarovski crystals and gold leaf.
Both Sting and my Elven clasp were resin cast and hand painted.
The master of Sting was carved from Balsa (wood) and the raised details were cut in styrene before casting.
