|Even though I don't feel this costume is any where near complete... It got thrown in the bin so this is as complete as it'll ever be. It doesn't help that I lost the headpiece on the morning of the con and only found it weeks afterwards! (and subsequently threw it away)|
As my first ambitious project I learnt so much working on this. Tried different painting techniques, experimenting in patterning with my trusty old plastazote, and really LOVED working with a massive prop. It was a great lesson in physics, and how patterns that work in your head need so much more to be stable in real life! It was also a great lesson in test running costumes... Although everything held up when I first tried it on, after a whole day and a skit the armour started falling apart (a true testament to my skills). It was also relatively heavy despite only using very light materials. It's surprising how much things add up - for it's size the hammer was quite light, but it was still very cumbersome and difficult to manoeuvre.
I hope to do another Monster Hunter armour set someday and actually do it justice!
