|Xiao Qiao was the first character I played as when I was first introduced to the Dynasty Warriors series, and at my young age I fell in love with her cuteness. I felt Koei did an amazing job bringing her character to life in their Strikeforce designs and thus I had to make it.|
My first attempt was in May 2009, in which the cosplay received a lot of praise which raised my confidence (seems as it was my first real cosplay, especially after winning the Neo Competition.
In 2010 I felt the urge to bring it back, simply because I adore it and I am incredibly proud of it.
The fans and wings are the most notable parts of this cosplay and I did indeed spend many hours working on them.
I made the fans by taking apart two giant paper wall fans, using the wooden skeletons as my base. I then painted some material (after cutting out the semi-circle shape)with the appropriate details and then spent many hours trying to iron in the creases. It took a couple of attempts because I realised I had ironed one of them the wrong way >< After glueing the material to the skeleton I began work on the flowers. The smaller flowers over the top of the fans were made vinyl (because that was all I had in 2009 lying around) and glued onto lolly pop sticks and attached to the back of the fans. The larger flowers were originally just painted card, but the Expo in 2009 destroyed them. So in 2010 I decided to make them out of coloured Fimo; it did add a lot of weight to the already heavy fans, but they did look wonderful =]
The wings were a simple idea, but the process was actually physically painful. I cut the base out of cardboard; it was on three parts. Each part was placed between two 'sheets' of leather before I sewed the leather together forming the shape. Of course it was hand-sewn and thus I nearly lost my finger tips ='[ I attached the three pieces together and then put them on a belt.
Doesn't sound as tricky now I have typed it out, but trust me it was no easy ride making this costume.

Progress of Improvements (Posted 20th April 2010)
Things are finally undergo YAY! Decided not to do the shoe covers because it was too annoying and difficult ¬¬ But I am happy with the new neck piece simply because of the colours are better. Will get to work with finishing the fans this week (yay fimo fun) and I am keeping my fingers crossed that my wig arrives in time (damn natural disasters) otherwise I will have to use my tatty old one =[ bad times!! Also my contact lenses arrived which I will test nearer the time as they only last 30 days!
Re-newing (Posted 17th January 2010)
I will be once again be wearing this costume in May. The wig will be replaced and to a better standard plus I will finish the other fan ^^ I hope to also have a proper photo shoot as this is the favourite costume and I'm so proud of it ^^
