This was my very first ever cosplay and so it ended up being one that I wasn’t happy with. I thought that Olga would be a good choice since Metal Gear Solid is one of my most favourite series and although there are other Metal Gear characters that I like more than Olga I thought that her outfit from the tanker mission would be the easiest to piece together from clothes bought from local clothes stores.
While I was able to find pieces which were similar to what she wears in the game it wasn’t accurate enough for me. The striped top annoyed me all day because the neck-line was too low, the camo trousers had a random logo patch on them and with this being my first cosplay it didn’t yet occur to me about the options of using wigs so I just tied my hair back (which is also totally the wrong colour) and wore a cap like the one she had in the game.
I think some good did at least come out of this though, because it taught me that it’s usually best to get even seemingly simple pieces of my outfits commissioned because they can be near impossible to find in stores, and to be thorough in searching for accurate enough wigs and commissioners that I think will do a good enough job. I wore this for one of the days of Oct Expo 2005 where I also got to meet Cam Clarke who voiced Liquid Snake and signed one of my MGS art-books for me =)
Needless to say this outfit is retired due to the above reasons.
( I only ever retire a cosplay when I’m not happy with it, otherwise I love re-wearing them )
