If you pull this off which day will you be doing it at Expo? Rather looking forward to seeing someone cosplay her :D

HURRAY!! I can post comments!!!

I expect I'll be going on the Saturday and I'd love to meet some of the other members of Team Sherlock. I see there are a few of us and I'd love to say hello.

This far out I'm still feeling quite brave but I may need some moral support nearer the time. I'm glad I won't stand out too much on the Tube - just have to hope I'm not arrested for lewdness!!

Ahhh~ Lewdness. Who cares for such things XD There are far worse costumes at Expo~
And the coat looks great by the way!

Thanks for the encouragement. I'm really looking forward to it. I figured I can wear trousers on the tube and remove them when I swap over to the skyhigh heels, there's no way I'm traversing London in those babies!

Journal

Sewing (Posted 9th April 2012)

The buttons are harder to source than first though so I'm going to have to see if I can customise ones I have from an old sofa (don't ask) I've cut off the belt, cuffs and epalette and sewn up the gaps in the seams they left. I've adjusted the cuff straps to become the extra pockets needed on the chest and trimmed the belt to be just a sincher on the back.

The buttons are currently brown so I'm attacking them tonight with a black marker pen and some gold paint. No bright ideas about the phone as the first plan didn't even slightly work. Any idea gratefully received. Plus, I've temporarily lost it! It has to be here somewhere.

Only a few weeks left and still feeling pretty brave.

Flashing (Posted 28th March 2012)

The coat has arrived and I'm going to need to add a button to the bottom as well as changing the original ones as it gapes open when I walk. Other than that, its brand new and as close as dammit to the original. Not too much effort going to be needed at all.

My phone arrived and I think this will be a bigger challenge as I can't even get the stupid thing open.

I've found a very helpful video on YouTube on how to recreate her makeup look. I have no interest in make up IRL and don't often wear it so this will be educational at the very least. It doesn't look too hard but I am going to have to source a blue creme eyeshadow - I didn't even know such a thing existed!

I'm feeling very positive and looking forward to getting my red thread out to add the button hole needed in the lapel.

Moving along (Posted 22nd March 2012)

As it turns out, the manager of my football team has a blackberry that I can customise and my riding crop has arrived (thrilling!!)

I chose a coat from ebay that I liked and shouldn't be too hard. That went into the post today so that should arrive in the next day or two. I hope to fix some velcro to the inside so I don't risk a "wardrobe malfunction" at any point. Does anyone have any tips as to a good fastening that means I'm less likely to give some poor chap a heart attack?

I already own appropriate shoes and I love them with my whole heart so I',m loathed to spoil them by using red soles I apply badly. I may experiement on a similar pair I own with removeable vinyl.

Coat purchasing (Posted 19th March 2012)

I've discovered my first problem. Shopping.

This has never been a problem before but now I find myself torn between buying a coat I like at a reasonable price and giving myself enough time to take scissors and thread to it and waiting to see if something even closer to the original arises.

This time I've decided on the former as at a worst case scenario - I have a lovely new coat. I'll now start looking for buttons and I'm going to experiment with customising the mobile phone. I did something similar as a child with Fimo and a Gameboy so this should be one of the easier parts but we shall see.
