Description
A period-accurate Victorian dress from the early 1870's will be the base for this costume, with various steampunk accoutrements added as I see fit c: I'm really looking forward to doing this costume and will hopefully be taking it to Animazement 2012!
-Edit-
OH MY GOD WHY DID I THINK WEARING A FULLY-LINED VICTORIAN DRESS IN NINETY DEGREE HEAT WAS A GOOD IDEA
/endrant
Other than the fact that I was sweating the WHOLE time I wore this thing (regardless of whether I was inside or out) it was a lot of fun! I was constantly getting compliments and questions about it, which was really nice c: One upside of it being really warm is that it'll be really nice for winter cons :3

IT'S ACTUALLY DONE NOW (Posted 30th April 2012)

...and the detail work has begun in earnest ._. I put together a hairpiece and two other gizmos that will somehow be worked in, as well as serendipitously finding a perfect cardboard tube for my staff! I finished the waistline beading and also did the cuffs, which will probably have lace added to them eventually. My mom is going to make hotel reservations for the con soon, but has threatened to pull the plug if I don't get my grades up from my rather dismal last quarter :/ So I'm going to really have to focus on school now and still figure out how to finish this too.

DETAILS HNNNNNNNNG (Posted 16th April 2012)

^that says it all
I added some pearl beads around the neckline, which looks very pretty, and also on the welting where the bodice and skirt are joined. I'm still working on this last part and it's giving me hell...SO MUCH SKIRT TO WORK AROUND WHYYY
But in other exciting news, I have my con pass and a whole box of old clock gears and assorted components that I acquired from a clock shop's recycling bin c: Also, my two friends are making good progress on their dresses so we should all be done in time!

THE BEAST IS DONE (Posted 27th March 2012)

...except for all the details ._. This includes buttons, lace, jewelry chain accents, props, makeup, hair, boots, the bustle, and possibly a number of other things...ugh. But on the upside, it looks really pretty and I'll put up pics as soon as I get off my butt and get them off the other computer~

whee progress~ (Posted 7th March 2012)

I got some good work done over this weekend, which included fitting the front of the basque, sewing it, fitting it again, re-sewing the back, sewing pin tucks (which nearly killed me ._.), bashing my head on the table over zipper logistics, and going on a hunt for coordinating fabric to cover the lining where it's exposed by the bustle in the back. Luckily, there were no major disasters, but I did end up having to take out several seams because fabric kept getting caught underneath OTL But it's starting to come together and I'm getting excited~

Progress to be made... (Posted 1st March 2012)

I should be able to get some more of this done this weekend...when I'm not at robotics, an AP review, robotics, babysitting, or robotics, that is! The front of the bodice will be the first order of business, and I also need to get my con pass...but once I get those last bits sewn, hopefully I'll be able to start putting it all together~
