|This is the 'My Two Favourite People' Rainicorn, so she'll have the Universal Translator prop.|
As it's the humanoid version, I'm not going to be wearing prosthetics or anything to change the shape of my face. I'll be going for a pink/purple makeup effect with a dress, mittens, green platforms, and striped socks.
I may extend the wig slightly to give it a scruffier, more mane-like appearance. Equally, I might not do the tail. I will take a view on that once the dress is complete. As for the horn, I'm thinking along the lines of a modified tiara at the moment, but this idea may change.
Update 15/2: makeup and hair sorted, dress still in the planning stages.
Update 12/4: dress in progress, shoes and necklace ordered. Am going to attempt to make the Universal Translator over the next few days. Socks still need modifying, but this will be done once I've tried the dress.
Update 9/5: dress progress - near-complete. Custom-made by the lovely Zoe at vags.net. Universal Translator is complete, it just needs fixing better to the choker. Everything else done and ready. Trial run of the full costume coming in the next week or so, once I have all the bits together. :)
Future plans (Posted 28th May 2012)
Also, I'm very tempted to do part of Amecon in this cosplay, so if anyone else is thinking of doing some Adventure Time cosplay, do let me know and we can synchronise the wearing of our outfits! :)
Post-Expo costume analysis (Posted 28th May 2012)
The cosplay was a great success, although I managed to tear and mark the dress in a couple of places due to occasionally stepping on it and lying in the dirt in the sunshine. Nothing a needle and thread can't fix, however. I also need to rethink my shoes for the next time I do this cosplay. I wore the green platforms on the Saturday but they were very painful and I had to take them off on a number of occasions. My feet still haven't recovered! On the Sunday I wore some nice heals with green canvas over the top, and they were fine. What I'll do next time is get some more sensible platforms that I know will stay comfortable for the entire weekend. Gorgeous though those shoes are, they were a little too small and it was a mistake to think I could get away with wearing them for a whole weekend. Finally, my Universal Translator broke in my bag on the way to Expo, so I couldn't actually wear it as a prop. I will have to redesign it to ensure that it's more hard-wearing next time.
