| Remake of my Dead Master costume =) I love my current Scythe, its just soo tall it makes it hard to pose with and carry. And being made from wood it takes time to assemble and is quite top heavy. My new scythe will be made the same way as my old one but i'll be using Styrofoam for the blade instead of wood. I may re-use the handle of my old one if not i'll most likely make it the same way just slightly shorter. Hopefully using the foam will not only make it lighter but as i'll be able to carve it it will hopefully look a lot better and more realistic =) Horns and Claws are being made from Clay! I'll also be making a new dress and wings at a later date. | |

Argh -_- [Depressing Emo Rant] (Posted 27th October 2011) So a lot of stuff is now failing. I gave up on the Horns as I wasn't happy with how they were looking and rather than stress over getting them done i'm just going to use my old ones for now. Same with my Claws, they are made but yet to be attached, they're quite heavy as had to use the normal clay in the end so I'm unsure if they will be too heavy so again re-using my old ones. Thats all even if I still wear this to expo -_- My new scythe looks amazing but the problem is getting it to stand up. The blade & handle are seperate again due to travel reasons but its just not holding up very well. Its up but very very wobbly & somehow ended up being TALLER than my last one which makes me worry i'm gona end up being asked to take it down all day ARGHHHH So i'm currently in two minds if I should even bother, I know i'm going to be constantly worrying about my scythe -_- But I don't want my dad's work on the scythe to go to waste and he doesn't want me not to cosplay as he knows how much it means etc. So we will see. If not rest assured I will wear her again. Just wana curl up and cry right now -_- /EMORANT |

Death Scythe Progress (Posted 24th October 2011) Only a few days to go now! EEEP! But it will be done!...I hope ^^' Credit for this goes to my amazing father <3 Going to seal this tomorow with PVA glue, my dad actually spray-painted some scrap peices of foam (one with glue one without) and they BOTH painted fine! I thought spray-paint was pretty taboo with foam unless properly sealed but there you go. I'd prefer to seal it with the glue just to be on the safe side though and also gives a better finish. So just needs a few extra bits and painting and then all thats left is the handle which is also in progress but that won't take long at all. So hopefully at least the Scythe will be done =) |

Progress Update (Posted 23rd October 2011) Just a quick update! Ive so far made the knuckle pieces for my claws from the Sculpey, they look...okay not perfect but they will do. So i'll just need to paint them and attach them to gloves. I did attempt the actual claw part to no avail...so going to somehow make a cast of my fingers from the Alginate so we can mold the clay round them and bake them. I just hope it works! As for the horns not totally sure whats going on with them right now, as I think I may have enough Sculpey to make them from...so may not need to make molds after all. DECISIONS DECISIONS. My dad has also drawn out the new scythe blade on the blue Styrofoam and sawed it out in rough so it will just need to be cut properly with the hot wire cutter then carved. Still not sure how we are going to seal the foam but think my dad will have a look for some stuff tomorrow. He seems perfectly confident that it will be finished in time lol and I have faith in him =) Unfortunately i'm having to work the days leading up to expo although I'll have free time tuesday & wednesday afternoon/evening so HOPEFULLY it will all come together. |

Materials & Plans (2 weeks to go!) (Posted 16th October 2011) So I know there's literally like 2 weeks till expo now...but it will be done =) Ive ordered the Styrofoam for my new scythe, I'm planning on cutting it using a hot wire cutter then carving/sanding followed by sealing the foam (using Gesso or something similar) then painting and varnishing. I may re-use the handle of my old scythe but make it shorter...or my dad has offered to make a new one so we will see. For the horns I'm currently in the process of making the individual pieces from the natural clay, I'll then use these to make molds from some Alginate set powder. Once Ive made the molds I'll then make the final pieces from the Sculpey. I'll be making new claws from the Sculpey as well but won't be using molds for those. Will upload progress as I go! |

Just read your journal and if you can try using milliput over sculpy, it's meant to be a lot better and hard-wearing.

@IndecisiveTrollop- I hope I see you too!! Just hope everything looks okay ^^'
@Leonie- Oooh really? I'm hoping the clay will be okay on its own tbh as I don't want to add anything that's going to add to the weight ^^'
