Description
Yakitate!! Japan - an anime about bread. What's that you say? Bread? Yes Goddamn bread, and the most awesome bread you will ever imagine.
*cough*.

Azuma Kazuma is the baking genius/idiot of the series, and one of the most individual characters I've ever come across.. he's in his very own special kind of awesome. Seriously, watch it or read it, you'll agree! But in any case, after bingeing on the series for around 2 months last year and still having a long-lasting love for it, I decided to cosplay Azuma for Auchinawa '06, and then again for AmeCon '07.

The jacket was the only thing that really needed work - I already had the jeans, knew where to get the shoes and well.. that's pretty much it for the cosplay, lol. I wanted to make one from scratch, but alas, it was decided that buying one and modding it would be easier. So that's pretty much what we did. After waiting a couple of weeks I got the a basic chef's jacket in blue, colour-matched the material and then started modding it. The front panel was completely replaced by sliding the replacement piece over the original, then attaching dummy buttons with poppers inside to make it wearable.
The "P" on the front was embroidered at a small place in the market for around £3, and looks awesome - at first I was just gonna cut a part of blue fabric out and then sew that on, but the embroidery takes the biscuit.

The neckerchief I foolishly forgot for Auchinawa and didn't know how to fold properly, so I had to make do with a large handkerchief I found at the Tie Rack in the station for then. Thankfully for AmeCon '07 when I updated the outfit and rewore it I'd just been to Japan and located an official Pantasia neckerchief in Animate, with instructions how to fold, an official embroidered P and a little Azuma badge! Happy, I was.

The wig is the worst part of it though, or moreso the lack of for Auchinawa - my hair was way too long for Azuma's hairstyle, refused to obey gel and a dryer and ended up horrible for this. I got a wig for AmeCon that's absolutely perfect, but the antennae still proved bothersome, making me burn the wig slightly and still not get the antennae I wanted. Boo.

Still, this is an awesome costume and I love wearing it - Chefs must have some of the comfiest uniforms ever, if this is anything to go by. I fully intend wearing it again, especially if I can round up a group for it (seeing as the group at Ame were on the saturday instead of the friday T_T waa)!

EDIT: Happily re-worn for Auchinawa 2008, featuring glittery solar hands and a proper group! And potentially gonna be reworn again in the future! XD This costume is so much fun to wear, it made Auchi a blast.
