When the very first teaser trailer of Final Fantasy XIII-2 came out, I was stunned at the 180-degree change in Lightning's image. She now is THE Lady of War. I was very much attracted to that feather skirt she had, as it picks up while she walks, giving a softer touch to the otherwise cold-looking armour. I fleetingly thought of cosplaying this version as well, but I didn't even hold any experience in armour making so I just gave up on it. Then two friends of mine gladly offered to help me in the making of this armour, only that I will be the one to do majority of the armour. It was a win-win situation if I could do this well enough, so I thought, "Why not?"
The hardest part was probably getting started on making it. I had no prior experience in making props or armour, so I nearly had to fully rely on my two friends' instructions to make it. Everything else that followed had its own challenges, but comparatively much easier than the initial stage I was in.
I learnt a lot throughout the whole making process, mainly getting to know the basic skills in crafting armour for different parts of the body. The most rewarding part was that along the way, I got to know a lot more people in the Singapore cosplay community and became friends with them.
This costume is a lot more constricting in actions than her default costume. I had difficulty sitting down and needed help getting up from my seat. I needed at least one person in front of me to allow me to shuffle along behind them. It was tougher than I had thought, but worthwhile.
And so ends my journey as FFXIII-2's Lightning Farron. I've done what I can to make myself feel proud for this costume. Now it's time to move on.
