Accessories (Posted 17th September 2012) Both front brooches are complete, so are the odango covers (though I need to put some elastic on that!) So the accessories are almost done! Just been a bit busy with life stuff, so progress has been slow! I've also been practising the dances for the masquerade - and it's safe to say I know the whole dance! :D |
Various #2 (Posted 4th September 2012) I've started making the accessories, looks -okay- so far (I hate working with Sculpey!) Boot covers are finally complete, need a little tweaking in one, but they're complete with pink trim and gold moons. I styled the wig, making the pigtails straight (and hairsprayed them so their stiff and won't get messy!) I also cut the fringe and made the buns look better. I'm VERY close to finishing, bit slow because I still need to buy a few things - and without them I can't complete things. I'm also in desperate need of those needle fasteners (ones like on the back of badge pins), not only to attach to the front bow, but because I need these to attach the hip rolls). I've literally tried every way possible to attach the bloody hiprolls onto the bodice - snaps, velcro, stitching! Garrrh, so needle fasteners it is! I also remade the hip rolls because the others became worn after trying attachement methods and they looked like shit and bumpy as hell. The new ones are better! I'm happy with my wings most of all, they're so fluffeh! Turning out better than I thought! <3 |
Various (Posted 18th August 2012) > The wings are about half-complete, covered them successfully in dazzle dust hologram fabric. Set some money aside so I can buy the feather boas! I also used the same fabric to make the front bow, which is now complete - though I need to attach a pin to the back of it, though. > I still need to draft out the pattern for the back bow, but can't do that until I've completed the wings as the bow bow is supposed to be larger than the front, I believe. > Finished the glove rolls, man I hate stuffing those things! Also did he wristbands and the fit snugly! > In the process of attaching the hip rolls onto the bodice! Next, I plan to start making the accessories, drafted out the pattern for them, though, so I can make them out of sculpey, using the patterns as a guide! I really need to purchase some long, white, invisible zips so I can finish the boot covers!! |
Wings and Bows (Posted 26th July 2012) Started drafting out the shape of the wings onto the foam board, realised I only needed to use one as it was high and wide enough (I bought two foam boards). Ah well, I'll go return the other one on Saturday so I can use the money to get other little tidbits for the cosplay! |
Fabric Shopping (Posted 25th July 2012) Sooo, went fabric shopping yesterday and finally bought the Silver Dazzle Dust fabric that will be used for the wings and two "winged" bows. I bought like, 5 metres, don't know whether that's too much or too little! I also bought two foam boards which need to be cut into my desired shape, then covered in the pretty, rainbow-y fabric! Then I can see how much I need! |
Hip Rolls (Posted 25th July 2012) Hip rolls took me ages to stitch, accidentally over-stuffed the pink hip roll! But it looks good! Did the gold hip rolls, made it way too thin - but I re-did it and it's a little thicker, though not as thick as the pink one - major dissapoint. Oh well. I ended up looking at the reference picture for Miyuki Kanbe and notied her pink hip roll IS slightly larger than the gold one! SCORE! |
Sailor Collar and Gloves (Posted 25th July 2012) I completed the collar and added three rows of gold trim. For the gloves however, I made a first pair, but they ended up being too small and too thin - so second time round I double up the fabric and made it wider. So now they're both complete! |
Skirt (Posted 11th April 2012) The three-tiered skirt has been constructed where i has been half-pleated, hemmed, has the sequined trim all attached and the side seams stitched together. I have also stitched some snaps to the crotch seam of the leotard pants. |
Bodice (Posted 25th February 2012) So the sleeves had been gathered, trim stitched on and stitched to the leotard as well as the sides of the leotard being stitched together. The sleeves aren't as puffy as they should be, but it was my first time making a pair of sleeves, I didn't even have a proper puffy sleeve pattern, so I used my own initiative. Still turned out nicely though, at least it has some puff. |
Leotard and Sleeves (Posted 7th February 2012) Finished cutting and doubling up the material for the leotard, just needs ironing. Drafted the pattern for the puffy sleeves, finished doubling up, just needs to be gathered and have the trim attached! |
Pattern and Fabric (Posted 30th January 2012) So, a while ago I started modifying the pattern, I think it is to my liking, not sure about the Sailor Collar however, but I'll get to that later on. |
Pattern (Posted 10th December 2011) Managed to get the pattern today, sadly, it's for an Xmas present, so I can't take it out the packaging and have a good look at the process for it. This pattern is perfect for any Sailor Moon cosplay! It has the v-neck on lower front v-shape, it has an underbust seam, and the skirt is the same length all the way around (unlike ice skating patterns which have the skirt shorter on the sides). |
Starting point (Posted 8th November 2011) Sooo, I've never written a journal for a cosplay on this site before, but considering how time consuming, costly and detailed this costume would be, I want people to know the process of this uber complicated costume - especially since I will be entering it in a cosplay competition with Rachel and others so this journal will help me to produce a detailed insight with actual proper progress pictures to submit to judges in the future. So anyway, Christmas is coming up, and the fiance said he's give me money so I can buy fabric, which I've estimated for it to cost about £80-£100, if I'm lucky, it will be less than that. But I can't start this costume until I have the main fabrics and the new pattern I want. I know I already have a figure skating pattern, but this other one is so much better! Will probably write a journal entry when I've started construction of the leotard or possibly the accessories, whichever I decide to do first. |

Awesome! I can't wait to see this you will look so pretty! X3
I can't wait to see this! :D
Excellent, another Myu cosplayer! Sleeves look lovely, look forward to your progress! ^^
Good progress Steffi. :)
Which pattern are you using?
Thank you Ranma!
I'm using the Kwik-Sew Misses' Leotard 3836
This pattern contains the "underbust seam" (omitted for the Myu outfit) and a v-neck as well as a v-dip on the front and back with a skirt that is straight along the bottom (rather than having the sides higher).
Basically the ultimate Sailor Moon pattern :D
Kwik sew 3836 - wow you found one of those! These patterns are all getting harder to come by. I feel fortunate to snag 3272 off eby recently. :)
this cosplay is looking awsome already, can't wait to see it when its finished
