|From my early cosplay years.|
When Phantom Menace was due for release the Star Wars cosplay community went nuts. I decided to give a more ambitious costume ago (at this point I had only made basic costumes and jumpsuits). Due to attend 'Rebellion 2'in 1999, My brother and I decided to put this together very last minute when we heard that there would be some Episode one guests.
The whole costume was made from scratch in three days. That included all fabric and wigs.
The dress was made from a pattern I designed. The collar was then a separate piece that sat over the top. The bottom of the dress had a wire hoop in it to maintain the shape. The gold design was hand painted on by me.
The hair was quite a challenge. In the end it was made using a long wig with plaits in at the back and then a crescent shaped hair piece that sat on top. The crescent piece was made from scratch using foam, cardboard tubing and spare wig hair. The hair was then glued in place over the tubes and foam. The Crown was a headband that sat over the hair piece. The face frames where made from cardboard with a gold lace overlay. The red lace pattern was then hand painted on. My brother helped with the head wear.
The make-up was done using basic face paints.
The only thing we ran out time on was the light up pieces. We had built a stiff underskirt that would sit under the dress. Clear plastic egg shapes where then put in. A portable fairy light set was then to be added under the egg shapes. So that the light effect could be achieved. We ran out of time creating the egg shapes. So that part of the costume was discarded. I might add it at a later date.
