|Cost :||Far too much, honestly I don't even want to know how much I spent|
|Time Taken :||I lost count|
This costume will be ugraded and reworn for MCM EXPO Oct 2013. He needs a good bit of upgrading, and I'm looking forward to the Final Fantasy IV group and finally meeting my older brother! :D
Me doing Cecil was just mentioned of a whim while standing in the line for the Masquarade of May 2011. Then suddenly i grew really attached tot he idea and now this is my main costume. As is typical of Amano, there are beads.... everywhere... and lots of fiddly decoration... and good god am i looking forward to it all XD I really want to put everything that i have into this costume and make it my best yet. Personally i feel that it is a good jump for the costumes that i usually do such as Russia, Sasori and Cloud, non of which were very complicated. But Cecil Harvey and ontop of that an Amano design is going to take a lot of work.
For some reason i just kind of latched onto the character Cecil... no idea how as i hadn't even played Final Fantasy 4 ( Though i playing though it now XD) and only first knew of him in Dissidia. His faerie mood amuses me greatly...
One of the main focus' for me on this costume, is the detail which i plan to all hand sew. I really want to go the extra mile on this costume, or die trying!! XD
As for the choosing of the Amano version, i have a great love for Amanos way of producing art, theres just something about it that i just can't but love, that certain quailty. That and just Amanos overall design of Cecil.
POST EXPO BABBLINGS.
...WELL... Where on earth do I begin. Wearing Cecil was ..interesting to say the least. I was pleasently surprised at how it looked once my friends managed to get the whole lot on me, and I was actually really happy and prud with that I'd produced. (Even though he is in line for upgrades and overall completion.) To begin with I found it rather comfortable, and even managed to sit down at one pioint with the help of my awesome friends... then the heat hit. It was death. Totally and complete horror. I got so bad that I was leaning against a tree and apprently looked so unhealthy and pale that people thought I would pass out... honestly I felt like it. But I was so looking forward to the photoshoot that I held on, but was really gutted that I didn't get any photos with the lovely Rydia and Edge D: Basically I had to take the whole lot off after my quick photos, then proceeded to sit against a tree in my wig and blue onesie and didn't MOVE. Oh it was heaven. It was like a switch had been flicked, I felt marvelous and just walked around in noithing but my onesie for a couple of hours. Many laughs with friends were had. After that It went all back on for the Masq, and was a joy to wear, I felt wonderful, even while standing backstage. Overall, witht he exceptiong of the heat episode and a couple of minor breakings Cecil was a success, and after his upgrades will hopefully be worn again in the future. :D
Couple of things on the costume
-Firstly the backsword broke off and I ended up carrying it for the rest of the day. So the bead belt it hung off of neededs to be restrung and stronger string used to prevent it from snapping.
-The bottom tie ont he breastplate also broke off which meant that the plate stuck out quite a lot. Somethng tells meI should have paper mache'ed it on :D
-He needs some permenent shoes, At the time I didn't have the funds to get him any, so I covered a pair of my good heels in macking tape and gaffa tape then glued the fabric to that so that I didn't ruin the shoes... because I really like that pair. So a long term solution is needed!!! XD
-Last thing. It got so hot that the glue on the inside of my bck plate actually MELTED and stuck itself to my onesie... icky. Might see about covering it with fabric to prevent that in future.
Whoa.. things are looking good (Posted 22nd May 2012)
I'm actually quite surprised how things are going XD Usually by now I'm panicing like a bloody headless chicken and have very little of the costume finished. But right now, I'm feeling pretty damn good about myself :)
I'm still got a small list growing on the things that I have yet to do, but I'm really hopeing to have everything done in time. So far I haven't even had that much trouble (ignoring the fiasco with the thigh armour) and most of what I've attempted has worked! X3 (again totally ignoring the fight with the thigh armour and the rather nasty burn I gained after an incident with a malevolent glue gun.)
Tonight i'm going to knuckle down and if all goes well i'll have all the armour completed, leaving the last bits of the capes and other fancy bits for tomorrow and then the final bits of beading. Expo is just over 48 hours away, and i'm really beginning to get excited, with any luck there will even be progress pictures tonight.
Belt (Posted 5th May 2012)
I ended up sewing the hip patch to a pleather belt I made so that it would actually stay on my hip XD The belt also holds both the sashes and the dagger on the other hip as well. Along the bottom of the belt I've sewn a line of sequins and seed beads and then various strings of beads hanging from the seed beads. All thats left to do is the velcro at the ends and a tassle which I've got to make and hang to the left of the patch.
Left arm guard details (Posted 5th May 2012)
Here are some of the beads/ribbons etc that go on the left arm guard, some other are actually attached tot he actual arm guard. One arm guard down, just all the detail on the other to go.
And so the Brestplate continues (Posted 5th May 2012)
Finally the main base of the plate is complete and at last I'm getting the armour and other attachments and so far i've got the belt armour and those weird little bit of armour which seem to serve no purpose other than to look pretty. The plates that over the back of the shoulder and the ribbon and buckle holds it on and the back armour goes underneath.
Now just got to seal and paint it and at some point along the way somehow get those bloody pauldrons on the shoulders :D
The brestplates slowing getting there (Posted 30th April 2012)
After a huge amount of modification which included a large amount being cut off the bottom to shape it and the shoulder straps being removed and replaced with back shoulder plates, I think that I can honestly say it's coming together nicely. Just need to pain the shoulder plates and attach the side fastenings then the base of the chest armour is down. After that I'll move on the belt thingy at the bottom and then slap on all the detail. With any luck there should be the first progress pictures tomorrow XD
Hip patch completed! (Posted 24th April 2012)
Heres, the hip patch for Cecils ..er... one of his hips ^¬^; Can't remember off the top of ym head which one. Its a white fabric cover with craft foam in the middle, again the detail was beads and long-stitch, with a little hand made tassle at the bottom. I quite like making tassles I have to say.
Beading Sheath 2 (Posted 24th April 2012)
I'm about half way through the decoration for the cover of sheath 2. This is the curved sword that will hang from his back. *flops over desk* This is certainly taking it's time. The beading just has to be the same on both sides then i'll sew on the gold rim at the top then at last stitich both pieces together and slip it over the sheath- OH! And the tassle! That lovely tassle that hangs from the end has got to go on yet as well. Well then better get busy!
